While he was not specifically talking about exchanges in the op, but yes if you do plan on buying and selling continuously then definitely buy and sell on exchanges, you will get a better price to buy from there. You may sell it else where though.

My suggestion to you is to try everything that you can, but not with 1 btc. Start a bit more slower, so buy coins for 10 $ or 20 $, with that money you can try to trade, gamble, or even invest in some service.
