I think it won't happen because how can people send to wrong address, even they accidentally change/delete some characters in bitcoin address, the wallet should notify that it's not valid bitcoin address (More Info)
But, if i received random BTC, i won't give it back or find who send it. I only return it back if the owner is looking his/her/their bitcoin by make public announcement or send a request to me with proof such as sign message and why they accidentally send the bitcoin to me.

I agree that there is a very slim chance of it being accidentally sent to my address.  If I have my address in public, this might be a tip or something.  You don't need to find or send it back because if it was a mistake then more likely they will send a small amount with signed message asking you to return it.  If they do, I will send it back without hesitation of course. Else I would think of it as a tip to whatever good deed i done Cheesy

if I got it for free, then I would not give it back. I think it was a gift for me because of the possibility of wrong delivery address wallet does not seem likely.

A total random mistake like the one I defined above (like having 12rqhr98r98ry98qYR89qr9q or whatever, and sending it to 12rqhr98r98ry98qYR89qr9w because you mistake q for w) is really, really, really unlikely.

But, copy-pasting the wrong address, for example the guy had one of your addresses in the past and he was intending to sell 1 BTC somewhere else but mistakenly copy pastes your address instead

Or you waiting for 0.1 BTC but sender makes a mistake and sends 1.0....

this is more realistic and can statistically happen considering how many transactions happen daily.

In the first case, I would have received a previous transaction and be familiar with the sender so I would return the coins.
In the second case I would also be familiar with the sender and would refund the difference (maybe after subtracting the transaction fee in either case). Now, this could be problematic as the sending address could be from an exchange or a mining pool account and the coins would not actually be received by the sender.  I guess it would be prudent to try to contact the person before sending the coins back if possible.  Hopefully people would only send coins from wallets under their direct control.
I could never keep something that wasn't intended for me.

If it tels me where he came from i will send it back otherwise i will hold it
off course i wont send something back that is not even registrated.

actually this is a bit difficult because if i received random BTC with huge amount i would tempted to save it in my bitcoin wallet but may be if someone else asking for refunds i guess I would consider it but if not i would keep those bitcoin as random reward

To be honest I do not think so, it also depends on how much we are talking about. If I just got 0,1 BCT then I would return it because it is not much.
I would not return a whole BTC or above because then we are talking real money and I am not giving that up.

Well I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to try and find the owner  Roll Eyes The way I see it if you're careless enough to send BTC to the wrong address, the amount you sent probably don't mean a lot to you anyway. If it happened to me, I would write it off as a loss immediately, regardless of the amount.
I'd likely get the iPhone 7 with that 1 BTC and I wouldn't lose sleep over it either  Tongue

Let's be honest and don't be lier if we receive just like 1 bitcoin by an accident would you return it? I think almost of the users will say no because first it will be hard for us to know if that bitcoin address that send us some bitcoin is the real owner second why would miss that opportunity to get that amount in a easy as 1,2,3 Grin. Let's be honest guys don't lie to other or even on our selves Roll Eyes.

This question is not about Bitcoin at all, it is mainly about moral code of every single one of us. As receiving BTC is not linked to any possible threat, most of us wount never give it back.
I guess only extreme wealthy bitcoiners (or saints) could potentially avoid temptation and sent that money back. That is the harsh truth.

I would return it if it's obvious it comes from one sender.

When it seems to come from an exchange or gambling site with multiple addresses and such i will hold on to it for a while untill someone can send me some proof.

How could they send you proof?  Are you expecting a blockchain message in a second transaction to you?

It would depend on how lazy I am at that moment. I'm usually very lazy overall so no, it's my coin now. If it happened on a gambling site and someone tipped me a coin by accident, then of course I would send it back instantly..  Grin

It would depend on the sum and the original owner would need to make contact that he/she made a mistake. If it was a larger sum (> 0,01 BTC) I would return it on request to a specified address. However the request should be made within two weeks after sending the funds with some kind of proof of rightful ownership.

I don't think it is advisable to simply return Bitcoin received in error to the sender without prior investigation. Among other things it may be possible that the coins where sent out of a web wallet and might be lost, if the sender is not in full control of the sending address.

Also it is extremely unlikely to receive Bitcoin from a total stranger due to error, because he/she needs to actively select your address.

No I do not think that I would return it, I would sell them right away to make some money. There is no reason for me to return it because I can sure use the money, maybe if that preson really needed it back and send me a nice e-mail on why they need it.

Do you use your bitcoin address as an email address as well?  How in the world is anyone going to email you about this error?  You have so many posts but don't know the basics of bitcoin...
 Also you are dishonest.

For my personal better to return it to their owner, because I don't want to eat the food I can buy from the wrong way. 1 BTC is the big amount and enough to make someone become greedy. I always hold my good thing in my brain to avoid the wrong way. but is sure some people have a different statement about this.
