Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

It's no surprise really.  The DAO was attacked and lost quite a lot of ETH funds.  I'm more suprised as to why the price has not fallen even more right after the attack.  But a lot of people (me included) speculate that it's the insiders of Ethereum that are trying to support and maintain the price after the big recent dump.  And they should in order to protect their whole investment in the platform.  But how long could that really last?

I mentioned a possible short opportunity coming just a while ago in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1045967.msg15394832#msg15394832

Looking at the graphs, it seems that ETH is dropping rapidly.

Why is that?

It's because price would already be through the basement if it wasn't supported artificially after the last dump (look at the unnatural sideways -action with no volatility of last week). The marketmanipulation was obvious and now is maybe coming to an end.
Sorry for your loss. If you didn't identify the market as heavily rigged you shouldn't trade alts. Still time to get an exit ...

eth is really moving strange during the last weeks. if you don't have time to make your own investigations then it is better to stay out.

fortunately i was able to sell at good price and now i am just holding and forgetting about the rest on my eth.

We know that this is not the case with ETH. Both BTC and ETH had a bull run some time back.
Plus bitcoin isn't rising rapidly now.

so for you 0.002 drop is "dropping rapidly" lol, isn't it just 10%, to me it look like a market activity, it is dumping after buying cheap when the dao made the price crash to a very low level, i don't remember if it was 0.0014 or lower

An 8% drop does look out of place when Bitcoin has moved in the opposite direction (+2%).
More than profit booking, I think the drop has something to do with the softfork being debated.

We all know it's useless and we all know people are in it for profit.
So it has to have up's & down's and in this case it also has extreme manipulation.
We all see it !

SO i think it has more to do with what the do the manipulators want to do ?
Users follow along whales eating crumbs.. you are irrelevant.

If the big guys want slaughter the cow to eat it they will.
But it's more profitable to drag it out as long as possible
with random DUMPING.

They are making a monumental fortune on this ICO scheme..
while you all do the work defending it for the crumbs they throw at your feet.
You better hope you support of ETH is a wise & healthy decision for yourself
and all of Crypto !

Selling out for chump change profits is not too classy guys.
..or smart.

I didn't buy any ETH, so I am not affected by this. I was just wondering why it dropped.

Might be a hard fork coming. And coins that have done hard forks have historically had their prices hammered. Sadly.

Messing up the soft fork does seem pretty amatuer hour.

I am amazed that so many people are happy to invest large amounts of money in something that is consistently being shown to be flawed and/or a scam.

It's laughably amateur, but only the slow decay of price will break the spell for some folk.
