Well i tallied it up and i got ..drum roll please  

7,000

I had been guessing for a long time because i had not gone and counted them all for a year or two..
I was guessing about 7 or 8,000 ponzi tokens and my guess was on the money (as usual)

So what ?
Well i see little noobs spouting off about how there is hundreds of coins.. WRONG
i keep saying there is THOUSANDS ..so listen up and get it through your heads guys ahahhaha

How ? i counted ANN topics.. which is a pretty solid indicator i figure.
and i got 7,080 total right now..
So i say take away 80 then factor in many coins never get an ANN topic anyway and i think we have a fair estimate
which lives me with a grand total of 7,000 crap coins  

So congrats "dev's" give yourselves a big pat on the back.. great job !!!

WOW I remember a time when there was a handful....

BTC, LTC, Namecoin, Peercoin, Tenebrix and a couple others waaaay back in 2012/13.

7000 between now and then is an avg of about 7 per day!  Thats more per day than most of them get in transactions

Using ANN topic numbers..
Let's remember some are about the same coin and some never had an ANN etc
Some may have been moved or deleted or not posted here at all.

So i will round down and that gives us 7,000 coins

You guys done experimenting with your free market yet ?

What next 8k before January 1st 2016 ?
10k by end of year ?
15k end of year after that ?
then 20k after that ?
then what 30k ?
40k ? 50k ?

When is your experimentation curiosity going to be satisfied guys ?

I bet right now there is more coins than there are altcoin users.
Then picture this.. they are "Currencies" 
So there is enough coins for each guy to have his very own currency..

New releases have been reduced considerably, Your number It includes takeovers, Duplicated ANNS, However your deduct is a good thing and quick to know the numbers....

However, 70 could be a number a little more accurate  so 236-70 equal to 166 its are takeovers,duplicated Anns,etc., Only considering after October 16, 2015.

Edit:  So please let me do a  comparison beetwen 7236 and  2770-3070 as the number of Total Altcoins until now depending on the approach , criteria and techniques used for this measurement. It would be nice if someone else bring us have his own  number for the most accurate.

No more need to cringe at the thought of how many billions the next ShitCoin is gonna have.  There is not an idiot big enough on this planet to top 100 Trillion.  That's way beyond monopoly stupid.

Truer words were never spoken... Seriously... Apart from litecoin and UNO and maybe a couple of others, SHT proved a point... Worse many trumpet so badly how litecoin is dead, out of all altcoins it has plenty of miners, ASICs and is still worth £3 a coin, so its valuable and is still living.

Premine a load while difficulty is low... then when its worth something offload, that seems to be the same as the maker usually (not always) wants a way to make a quick buck so wants to get in while its easy (As the maker they have first pickings) and then when it catches on... Many of the crap coins even have 'bitcoin core is shutting down' or still has the word 'bitcoin' somewhere in the wallet client... Usually but not always changes are a new logo, change of the block reward slightly, max money supply, and a couple of other tweaks, offering nothing new.

Bytecoin was a good idea but the 80% premine stank... Monero is an OK idea but not user friendly enough...

first i thought 7'000 new coins in 2015.... that could have been possible too.

but at the moment there aren't two new coins a day. "deva" are spending their money and will start to scam next year again.

I did a quick count here for 2016 guys and i estimate 6,000
201 ANN section pages x 30 per page = 6k

I had a hunch before i looked it would show me 6 grand..
Yeah my methodology is sketchy but it's a fair indication.
Look at page one in the ANN section.. every one of them are coins.
And some coins never were in that section ever and.. i rounded down.

So two observation i want to highlight.

First..
The obvious.. that is a LARGE number people !
And i HAD noticed for a long time that people think it's far faaaaar less than 6 thousand.
People often say what ? 300 coins ?
NOT EVEN CLOSE !

So what do you all think of that ?
Think about it.. even if my math was off by a thousand coins that is still 5,000

I also want to point out the numbers.
We are seeing the mark of the beast here !
