Even after 5 yrs after the invention of Bitcoin nothing outstanding happened so that we can be boastful about the fact that we are moving forward.

Ethereum - Marginal probability of long term survival
DAO- On the verge of extinction
Waves- No solid business plan.Uninformed practises.
Litecoin,Dogecoin and other  cryptocoins- No large scale adoption of these coins.Didnt attract the masses.

Bitcoin is the only winner in the crypto world.
Hail Satoshi!!

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Indeed, Bitcoin is the only solid blockchain, all of the rest are struggling to get on Bitcoin's level. And the more time it happens with Bitcoin surviving as number 1, the more solid the project becomes and the harder it will be for it ever going away.

If we reach 10th anniversary in top shape we will confirm that Bitcoin is here to stay for at least another 100 years.

I don't know, there are very few places where you can actually spend/use it. Seems most are just holding it thinking they will get rich in a few days. Almost all post on this board is nothing but spam for sig/post count.

There are entire threads counting up the thousands of BTC lost forever. I could go on.

What is it about BTC that makes it a winner?

You make it sound like its all over. Its been 5 years but this year or next could be the real beginning . Even the market cap its at at the moment is pretty impressive, I dont know any other asset that would have made such big profits in so little time. Im happy with where were at but obviously its early days still.

Its normal human nature to want allthing fast and when you want but bitcoin or any other community driven project need more time. Talking about bitcoin it has already crossed its black days and now have greater security as well as lots of new merchants, investors or even small boy is trying to learn more about bitcoin. Other alts also have more functions than bitcoin and can do well but depends upon the dev team, how they deal with the problems and how fast they can make new updates.

you forget to have LISK in the above list: max visiting lots of countries with investors money, which is causing no any pump in price and value  Sad

Bitcoin is most trusted and successful so far because it was first coin of this type.I don't think other cryptocurrencies have any chance to succeed because they don't really have much to offer. In future we will be using digital currencies but those will be backed by governments not these private ones.Bitcoin still will be base currency to set up value of those currencies.

I'm very proud with bitcoin because bitcoin becomes a stronger currency, can stand alone and defend their selves from the intervention of 3rd parties or another can endanger them. and I think bitcoin will keep surviving every time.

It's more than 7 years since BTC started, and altcoins, most notably Ether have grown much bigger anyone would have thought. I'm expecting change when blocks will be full, with additional transactions being delayed, or rejected. This can happen next week.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Exactly and remember that all alts are profiting from bitcoin. If bitcoin did not perform less interest would go to new coin. So far the road has been bumpy but the long term goal is good.
Bitcoin is ready for a change and either the block size or block speed will change. Which will give some new energy.

The thing that I like most would be a new interface for the wallet. The current wallet needs some graphical improvements.

For a 6/7 year old currency that came out of absolutely nowhere and started at zero you're not impressed with the progress? man, you're hard to please.

last time i checked there were thousands of places where i could spend it.

what makes it a winner is trust. more people trust it than any other alternative and all this ethereum stuff goes to show how much can go wrong with unproven coins. it ain't going anywhere soon.

To the bolded I would say that those coins do have strong communities and they do have some utility.  As for their long-term survival chances, I don't hold out much hope.  I would like to think that dogecoin would be around in 20 years, but it probably won't.  Bitcoin, most definitely, and it definitely is so far ahead of the other coins--it's not even close.  So I dabble in trading here and there, but my belief is only in bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the only winner in the crypto world.

I think most of the people on this forum think their going to get rich some day by holding their coins. Which, in 5-10 years from today, it might happen. But most people don't put their money where their mouth is.

Most of the post on this forum is spam though. Gotta weave through it all to get to the real BitCoin talk and not just the "faucets, gambling, games, blah blah blah shit on here"

However, not every coin is trying to be bitcoin. There's a hell of a lot of shit coins out there. Most of them the developers hype, retards jump on board thinking they will get rich tomorrow, and the devs run off with money and the coins sit's and rots away.

Not all alt coins are like that though. Some unite and take their specific technologies and use them together to make a good ecosystem.
BitCoin can't do everything, it's only #1 because it was first, and has the most development.

We can not be boastful of having bitcoins. Today the price is good and may increase tomorrow but if we boast and the price goes down its a shame to all of us. But the fact that we are earning and bitcoin is moving on despite of the limited supply is a good reason enough to be cheerful. Hope bitcoin will move to another level in the economy so we can enjoy bitcoins more in the future.

Not so. While there are hundreds (if not thousands) of junk alts, there are a few which fill valid needs that Bitcoin can't. First, there are are privacy coins. Bitcoin is pseudonymous. Monero is private and untraceable. Then there are storage coins, like MaidSafe or SIA.

As someone else mentioned, BTC is still young. For as young as it is, it has made a sizeable impression already and will continue to get better. But like 99% of items/products, BTC really needs a marketing campaign. Most people either haven't heard of BTC or don't know what it is. A relatively simple way to increase BTC's name in the minds of people would be a 30-second commercial that states what BTC is and why it is better than banks, along with a URL for more info. It makes no sense that companies like Coinbase or Bitpay haven't done this...they'd only benefit, as would the BTC community.
It is just a shame that there's not a lot of marketing going around to sort of hype bitcoin. Someone should take the lead in doing a campaign to better introduce bitcoin to a wider, bigger audience. Market cap is still small and that makes the price easier to manipulate. We just have to be patient and wait for that one big event that would push bitcoin to mainstream consciousness.

Who do you think would be best for that position? I think Tim Cook would be best.
