It depends on your mining equipment and the money you have to invest in mining. bitcoin mining can be profitable but it need high quality mining rigs and lots of electricity. most of time the electricity cast of bitcoin mining will be more expensive than how much you mining from your miners. so small mining rig not good for bitcoin minings.
if you have small capital then use it to altcoin mining.
I would recommend you to mine Lisk, Etherium and Waves, these are three most high potential altcoins at this moment.

1) find out which hardware you have/ which hardware you can buy (mark the price, including the postage, customs charge, controllers, cables, cooling, shelfs,...)
2) find/run benchmarks for this hardware: you need the hashrate and power draw (including the power used by the controller)
3) fill in the numbers (don't forget the electricity usage and price)
4) see if you can make a profit (hint: don't be suprised if you cannot make any money, especially when your electricity price is not so great)

I asked a similar question not long ago and tried mining a  few different alt coin,  i  ended up just going back to ethereum but for me its  barely worth i.  I  never realised you could mine waves,  that could be interesting although it must give you payments for transaction fees or something,  im not sure.
