I don't think I'd like to allow the government to look into my wallets at all because I think that's just an invasion of privacy. You can actually partially know a person's wealth if they look at our bitcoin wallets. I wouldn't mind if they looked at my bitcoin wallet just as long as they don't know that I own it.

I think people are shifting to bitcoins because they want freedom from governments to stop peeping in their savings and avoid unnecessary taxes etc.
So we do not want the government to take control of this bitcoins.
It's only saddening to know that some governments are actually trying to profit from bitcoins and placing taxes on anyone who's using bitcoins. I saw this article about a bill that's being reviewed in North Carolina and it made me both sad for the people in North Carolina, and angry for their government.

In the coming days when the government will legalize bitcoin and puts up regulatory rules and policies on the use of bitcoins it is a prerogative of the government to monitor the bitcoin transactions as well as your bitcoin wallet. For how many years bitcoin has been operating outside the hands of the government and many illegal operations especially in the black market is taking place without being traced. This coming events may be helpful to the stability of bitcoins in its operation and security.
a very very easy way to bypass the government forcing to look into your wallet to have multiple wallets, and just show them one that looks all nice and formal, and do your bitcoin stuff on a different secret one.

Certainly not! Bitcoin does not need "legalization" by the government control freaks. Putting Bitcoin under government control is also not a helpful for stability or security at all. Proof: The central banks are operating under government control.

If you want a payment system that centralized payment system that takes away your freedom and implements KYC/AML policies to spy on you, just use Paypal. Bitcoin is not for you. Bitcoin is incompatible with statist officialdom. The very reason for its invention was to end the oppressive and destructive regime of centralized fiat monetary policy.

I would move to Panama, or some place where they don't try funky stuff like that. In time most people will move to safe havens and the old governments with wither away due to the lack of btc business =)

hahaha yeah, i would show all my wallets that are empty too, i wouldnt have any trouble with that, though i would definitely destroy all my private keys then in order not to use it any more

i think that wouldnt be a really bad thing if they would actually check my wallets though in my opinion i wouldnt like it too much because i really like as much privacy as possible

I will never allow the government to know what my wallets are. And there is no need to as there are easy steps to cash out coins without governments or banks noticing anything. Just mix your coins and sell them face to face to someone, and no government or bank knows that you have cashed out your coins.

This is not a will we let them look, as more of a they will look if they want to.  You do not think they are already looking?  How do you think they find all these black market sites and shut them down?  Everyone thinks that Bitcoin is untraceable and they are wrong.  There is always a digital footprint out there and they have the people to track it.  Think about it.  If you are a hacker and you can easily break into someones account by hacking their private key, how much easier would it be to easily just watch and track it.

I think it will not happen, however satoshi create that decentralized bitcoin. In other words, although the government would legalize bitcoin, I think the government has no hack to monitor our treasure: D Thank you

I think they (government) will not be able to verify or prove that you are a user of bitcoin? they will not know
that you have or have bitcoin wallet. so when they do not know why should we allow them to see our wallet ?

If the government know all your transaction and  legalized bitcoin bitcoin  now is not anonymous. But this already happen in other country .in the near  future bitcoin transaction need to pay tax to government which is not good but we don't have a choice if it really happen.

there are a lot of ways to know and there are a lot of ways to prevent them from knowing, so it depends on what you are doing. for example when you buy bitcoin with your money (credit card, bank transfer,...) you are linking your bitcoin wallet to yourself or when you are conducting some business online you can be verified and found.

No, i dont think that government should be allowed to look on our accounts. As when they look at our accounts, they will try to impose unnecessary taxes and things like that. We are investing in bitcoins as we dont want the Government to be the controller of our money.

No I don't want the government to go around checking my wallet and what I have been doing with my private Bitcoins. Bitcoin preaches anonymity and security of people's money so allowing the government to have a peek inside just doesn't make sense to me. I know that legalizing Bitcoin will shift the system from decentralization to centralization and then the government will have full control over the Bitcoin community in that country because people will need to disclose their earnings for tax purposes every year when filing the annual tax reports forms.

I agree with you but it's already happen to many country now. Also the Philippines local wallet need to verify your identity first before you can cashout huge amount of money using there wallet and you give them permission to deactive your account if they found it malicious or from gambling.

I don't think that the regulation mean monitoring the wallet of everyone. It is impossible to be made even can be chose to be made. The fiat money is not monitored in this way. No one monitor my actual wallet and only me know ho many have there. Then to many countries have regulated bitcoin and no one has chosen to monitor the wallet of the people within these countries.
