EDITED 3/21
If you would like to contribute to the bounty anonymously, email litecoin51@tormail.org.

Donations:
$500 knowledgeable
$500 anonymous5050
$500 lophie

Total raised:  $1500 of target $4000 needed for attack.  Litecoin value down 33% since this thread started.  Litecoin network hash power down 43%.

-------------------------------------

To encourage a demonstration of the insecurity of the litecoin network and the ridiculousness of its $10mil market cap, I will send $500 worth of bitcoin to whoever shuts down the litecoin network for 4 hours with a 51% attack.  I will escrow.  Please add to this bounty if you would benefit, as $500 is not enough.

My time is valuable, and I lose it every time I have to explain to a friend why they should not invest in litecoin.  They are buying it because they don't know any better and hoping it will go up because bitcoin did, because it is currently "going up", and because its price per unit is lower.

They don't know that litecoin is accepted at <20 merchants and that this has something to do with the value of a cryptocurrency

They don't realize that the litecoin client hasn't been updated since version .62 and that it hardly has any developers

They don't understand that one of litecoin's (tiny) changes to the bitcoin code is a negative contribution that downgrades the network security by making it vulnerable to control by a single botnet or specialized hardware.  Some of them think litecoin is more secure since it didn't have a chain fork.  Unfortunately, the last threatened attack on litecoin was not executed by BitcoinEXpress, who later said he loves litecoin and wanted to help it.

You do realize someone mining with 3 ghs of hardware makes thousands of dollars per day mining litecoin, right?

OP is a moron lol. Good laugh though. $500 bounty to NOT make $1000's of dollars per day mining bitcoin or litecoin.  Cheesy

To 51% the litecoin network would cost about $1,000 per hour, or $4,000 to meet the requirements of your bounty.  One would have to be bad at math to accept that "deal".  Make it $20,000 and you might find some takers.

Even if this was possible, wouldn't placing a bounty on this potentially be deemed as criminal behaviour?

This is like hotmail saying their encryption is uncrackable and then you offer someone $500 to hack into their network and damage it to prove it's 'faulty'

The fact you offered 500$ to someone who could make millions speaks a lot about your level of stupidity and how butthurt you are litecoin is +1000% in the last 2 weeks while bit coin stayed the same. (I love bitcoin, I am a litecoin user. Not everything has to be black and white, right or wrong)

Also, that would have been fun to do when bitcoin got first adopted too. What would it have proven to your beloved bitcoin? At least if you wanna prove something, prove something that can't be done in what you defend.

D&T, how are you arriving at this estimate?  Is this based on lost mining pool revenue, or botnet rental, or what?

$4,000 seems like an achievable figure.

He over estimated, to entice. If you truly wanted at 51% attack you would pay that much.

But obviously we all here can see right through you. You didnt do the calculation beforehand and are now trying to backpedal to say that you are just putting in $500 when initially you made it seem as if that would be payment enough. lol

go to:

http://dustcoin.com/mining

enter  3 000 000  khash in lower left  box
choose "per hour"  in lower right box

you will see a 1000$  under litecoin

this is not so easy, moraly unclear, high risk of ending  illegal/terrorist problems, so 4000$ is not enough
