The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Use this......  https://www.whattomine.com

I am currently fliting between eth and feather depending which is top of the leader board. However, what is left of the CPU power on the rig is being used to mine Groestl.

So 2 coins on 1 rig!

Eth is running out of time, getting too big too, wow those DAG files! soon PoS, and the price, hmmmm... and its connection with the DAO  Angry
feathercoin looks ok, ASIC resistant on neoscrypt   Wink
Groestl seems to run in the background with a bit of CPU throtling and seems to be just as efficent on CPU as GPU.

I'm still looking for best ways to cash out, as i like to cash out once per month from Altcoin to either Gold or bitcoin.....  And in the case of eth.... im so glad i did.  I was only holding 0.119 eth when the DAO was hacked so i got to keep my shirt.  And I enjoied 3 -4 months of very profitable mining, sh*t myself when the electric bill came though.

Things are changing....  Lets see what happens after the bitcoin price doubling Cool  £300 two months ago.... £600 in two months time.

I'm interested to see what others plan on doing with their GPUs after ethereum.

Would you mind sharing what kind of rig you have or how many coins you mine in a given week?

And what was your electric bill? O.o

there is no altcoin that can absorb the network of eth, as soon as ethereum will die all other will be utterly unprofitable

the good part is that people will begin to sell their gpu and the overall network will reduce its hashrate

this time i'm not incline to say that we will face anothee 1 year with bad profit like it was for 2014-2015, because i'm sure bitcoin will skyrocket even mroe making everything profitable in any case

But the bitcoin price skyrocket has nothing to do with the altcoin miners. It will just make them earn fewer bitcoins.

Even just 1% of the Eth hashrate will kill the mining profit on those clones.

There honestly isn't that much on the horizon for future mining aside from some speculation in newish coins that might have some decent tech behind them.  Eth will go pos eventually but even that is debatable being so much investor confidence has been lost and they have some of those problems to take care of before pos is an option.

If you build a rig, you really wont make all that much being so late to the party but on the other hand it could be worth it.  If you do decide to mine, simply enjoy the profits while they last.

Eth clones will likely absorb Eth hashrate.

only if they pump them to 10x, not sure if this will happen

actually i don't care about etheruem i'm mining something else

If the Ethereum dies due to fundamental bugs, how can the Ethereum clones survive? People will also lose confidence.

Maybe Monero (XMR) can be the replacement of Ethereum. Almost the same structure of BTC. I have seen it rise from 1.47 $ a coin to 1.95$  as of today. You can try mining it right now with MinerGate Smiley

The development of the Monero is not active. It is a botnet coin, good for the computer hackers. So no good community.

I think its very hard to know what will be happen in the future if ethereum will be not profitable in the future.. i think you can choose many premined in coinmarketcap where you can  choose old altcoin that still alive as of now..
And if you want to choose what setup you want better to choose gpu mining instead of asic.. gpu is better for me to mine..

The old coin still alive will be the Feather coin. But the market cap is too small. If 1% of Eth miners mines it, it will be dead.

Better to choose well known to mined like dogecoin or monero..I think ethereum still halving issue so if ethereum will be gone what do you think the best to mine those 2 is my choice monero or dogecoin..

old altcoin, with an escape from N-scrypt ASIC danger long time ago - is Vertcoin (ASIC resistance embedded)

I've heard people mentioning that Ethereum won't be profitable for much longer. If so, what would the next likely altcoin to mine be? Also, what would be the best rig for a beginner miner be, in regards to an asic vs gpu setup?

When I get my RX 480 I'm going to mine Ether and hold it, because I think it's quite possible that the price will be $30 by the end of this year.
Ether has a good potential and I don't care if it's the real one or just speculative.

If you mine, and your electricity price is very low. It is fine. It is like buying the Ethereum at $2 each.

That could be the reason why the Etereum mining hash rate is still increasing while the price is going down.

Is the algorithm GPU or CPU friendly? If that is GPU friendly, the price of the ZCash could be well supported.

the algorithm will be Equihash which is memory-hard/asic"resistant"/anti-tweeking(...) . there wont be PoS as far as I know so that's the only anti ASIC method they have.

That is excellent news. That is good for the DPU miners to secure the network and have bigger user base.

there is however a "prremine" which isnt a premine. 20% of the block reward during the first 4 years of mining will go to devs and investors. meaing that 10% of the total supply will be for the devs and investors, but i dont see that as a BIG problem.. since the investors will ensure the coin is sucessful (they own alot of stuff in crypto) also, the team is like the avengers of the crypto world x)

Seems like Ether Classic will keep GPU mining alive for some time. It also actually might stay PoW for a longer time than Ether.

Yeah the longer the price stays strong the more investors it will attract. On yobit quite a few people try to pump Ether even further. The best that can happen to the miners.

Hi greenuser, Just wondering, which service are you using to transfer alt coins to gold? I've been thinking about doing that but not sure on which services are the best =)

Honestly there are many many old threads about Ethereum's imminent downfall that never happened. A bunch of people speculating it has never proven true yet. Only thing worrying is the constant drama on the coin now with the losers of the vote to fork or not going back on the old chain. That makes me feel like the community is finally on the downfall. Maybe it will all balance out, maybe it won't

To be safe I am questioning if I should get 2 RX 480's or get 1 GTX 1070. The 2x 480's would mine Ether faster but the 1070 would allow me to pump VertCoin if the community destroys its self. I don't really understand smart contracts on the technical side but the concept is intriguing so I would like to see it succeed From the time I got on here mining topics were basically Ethereum unless specified as other. Would the RX480's be profitable in anything else? Hash rate searches just endlessly feed me Ether.

I do not have knowledge in mining especially in altcoins. Maybe ETH is good to mine (my opinion) because many are holding this coin, even though it is constantly going down. Sooner or later, it will rise and it will be profitable to the holders.

The Ethereum price is not constantly going down. It is quite volatile. When the ETC is completely dead, it will go up.

Maybe Monero (XMR) can be the replacement of Ethereum. Almost the same structure of BTC. I have seen it rise from 1.47 $ a coin to 1.95$  as of today. You can try mining it right now with MinerGate Smiley

Monero RIGHT NOW is barely break-even with GPUs at LOW ELECTRIC COST.

It can't possibly handle an influx of even 10% of the Ethereum rigs currently mining ETH.

ETH will die eventually as a mineable coin - the long-announced but delayed move to POS is guarenteed to do so - but it should have a few months to a year of mining left, if your electric rate is low enough.

GTX series cards can also move over to FoldCoin after they become unprofitable on ETH - AMD cards traditionally don't do well on folding, unfortunately, though I've not seen how the new Polaris stuff does on that yet.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

The Monero is a botnet CPU coin. It is more profit to mine by the botnet CPU. It is not profitable to mine with GPU.

Even though the Ethereum is not most profitable to mine with GPU, it can support very large hash rates.

The Monero is a botnet CPU coin. It is more profit to mine by the botnet CPU. It is not profitable to mine with GPU.

I've been dabbling with mining XMR, it takes a long time to mine 1XMR with CPU, and the transfer cost is 0.1 which makes the mining not so profitable unless you generate a lot. I've also been mining BCN, but the supply of BCN is almost depleted. I'm wondering which coin is best to CPU mine next. I'm thinking about XDN maybe. I'm also mining XMG with CPU but that is more unique as the block reward reduces as total  hash rate increases, so dont mine that one at full pelt.

Is anybody else CPU mining? Which coins are you mining?

However, what is left of the CPU power on the rig is being used to mine Groestl.
So 2 coins on 1 rig!
Eth is running out of time, getting too big too, wow those DAG files! soon PoS, and the price, hmmmm... and its connection with the DAO  >:(feathercoin looks ok, ASIC resistant on neoscrypt   Wink
Groestl seems to run in the background with a bit of CPU throtling and seems to be just as efficent on CPU as GPU.

Hi greenuser ! Which miner are you using for CPU mining Groestl and on which pool ?

Maybe Monero (XMR) can be the replacement of Ethereum. Almost the same structure of BTC. I have seen it rise from 1.47 $ a coin to 1.95$  as of today. You can try mining it right now with MinerGate Smiley

Monero RIGHT NOW is barely break-even with GPUs at LOW ELECTRIC COST.

It can't possibly handle an influx of even 10% of the Ethereum rigs currently mining ETH.

Does your CPU have AES_NI. If it does, then it is more efficient than the GPU mining with 280X.

I've heard people mentioning that Ethereum won't be profitable for much longer. If so, what would the next likely altcoin to mine be? Also, what would be the best rig for a beginner miner be, in regards to an asic vs gpu setup?

I think zcash will be the next big POW altcoin. It is developed by a good team behind it. I also have been looking for more information in crypto mining and it would be nice to be pointed in the right direction.  Profitability is not my goal for now but I would like to gain experience in mining.

I hope so. When the Ethereum becomes PoS, we need another big coin to absorb the huge mining power.

Looks like my processor does support AES-NI, I'm running a fairly new i7 with 8Mb cache. That's handy to know.

If it is I7, it will support AES_NI. So if you do not over clock and mine the Monero, you can have about 300H/s or even hgher.
