I'm not a tech guy so I have to ask:  what is a dot bit domain?   What's special about them? 

Also, is there anyone really using namecoin?  That's one I haven't heard of in a while, though there have been so many shitcoins flooding the market it's impossible to keep track of them all.

This project is still alive? I didn't think the devs are still working on it. I'm glad to see they still want to pursue namecoin. Good luck to them.

Does .bit domain available to buy publicly i haven't seen it in namecheap or another domain registrar.

you buy the dot bit domains right inside the namecoin wallet, they can be traded to new namecoin address just like sending coins to people.

rare as in has a use besides pump and dump yes and something i  just realized today icann wont let you register billclintonrapedme.bit but somebody did using namecoin, and if namecoin gets used as a certificated authority its much harder to man in the middle than https those two facts alone are why i would look twice at a coin that was once 10 dollar and now only 40 cent. its mergemined with bitcoin but only less than a third of btc miners actually mergemine it right now even though its "free" .
