Why don't people from this forum pay to advertise on faucets...  Huh Wouldn't it be the perfect way to advertise? With all the bitcoins they pay to users in campaigns, why not also pay a certain amount a day/week/month to have a banner or link on various faucets-- that way, the sites are getting funding for their faucet pots too (and wouldn't have to buy bitcoins with cash, saving a step).

Everyone always ventures from the faucets to the other parts of the forums eventually, so I honestly think this would be a great idea.

But what would be a fair cost? I do wonder.

I guess it just needs to be calculated on how much people pay (in bitcoins) to advertise vs how much people get paid to advertise. I don't even know the cost to advertise.

Exactly, the majority of bitcoin users are visiting this forum and you can't even compare bitcointalk's traffic with a random faucet. Also signature campaigns may be expensive but i am sure that they worth their money and advertisers are getting very good results.

I suppose so...

I would liek to know how many views the major faucets get. I mean a few of them even non-faucters use, so **shifts eyes** I think as long as they offer something different than the normal, it could attract a lot of attention.

I guess the only way to learn how many views the major faucets have is to ask them directly, there is a thread for freebitco.in in this section and their admin is active.

If you have lacks of views per day and than maybe you can find an advertiser otherwise i don't think anyone is interested in bot and fake traffic.

Some of us are real though, and I have personally clicked on a lot of stuff that interested me (particularly the Bitcoin ones), I even found a few sites I actually signed up for too...

I think the casino sites would totally benefit if they were advertising on some of the more popular faucets: at the very least, their banners would be more widely 'accepted' than the obnoxious ads too!

One of the main things fauceters complain about is the atrocious ads.

Let's not forget that a lot of ads (that have nothing to do with faucets, but still with bitcoins) are advertised on these sites by a third-party/middle man: one thing we need to do in this world is cut that middle man out!

the middle part connect the advertisers with the publishers, that's how the faucet owners can start the project..
and a lot of advertises pays a little price(with sites like a-ads, adbit campaigns, etc), thats a good cost
and the publishers(faucet owners) earn enough to stay alive(adjusting the prizes)

the middle parte allow a quick start earnings from publishers and save time from advertises..
there's no way to cut the middle

One of the purpose of signature space is originally to place your referral link, cmiiw, so I think its fair to say that faucet can be advertised and "campaigned" that way.

But why do people prefer to use them for advertising other sites? It is simply because it paid more. If you look carefully, you'll see that there is a great difference of the amount you got from advertising some sites than what you got from the referral of your faucet account (unless you have thousands of referral).

So why don't the faucet owner held a signature campaign and offer to pay people on competitive rate with other sites? I think it is because they can hardly get the same profit as other sites. Most sites doing signature campaigns are gambling sites, they earn a lot of profit from their member, hence paying some people to let their service even more wide known is easy and advisable. While for faucet, the earning is not as much (or so i heard) and thus paying people to advertise them is quite burdensome.

...

...

Some time ago I was experimenting with advertising my dice site ref-link on freebitco.in, the click through ratio was somewhat decent, I got some sign ups but none of them deposited/played.

It's probably the quality of faucets' audience that puts people away from advertising. Vast majority (not all of them though) of faucet users are there to collect fractions of a penny, these are not the type of people you'd expect to be willing to gamble or even hold any significant amounts.

That being said, if the advertising cost is attractive enough, I don't see any reason why BTC casinos couldn't use faucet for advertising. But, since faucets are not the primary focus areas for casino operators, faucet owners should reach out to them and offer attractive, long-term deals.

The problem with faucets is that they generate bad traffic.
The real humans who visite those faucets, the just want the satoshis and do not care about ads.
And the many bots who visit faucets even care less about ads.
To me it makes no sense to advertise on faucets.

Actually most faucet users just come to faucet, click claim and move to next one without looking at adds. If someone want to gamble, he just write "online gambling" in google and find casino. And I think that promoting here in bitcointalk is maybe the best promotion.

You all make pretty valid points. Though, I do think a few 'unrelated' sites about bitcoin is still good to have-- as many of you have pointed out: it's just mostly newbies who legitimately do faucets. And some (like me) fall for the click bait. :p

Then there are some of us that do it for the fun of it.

Well, thanks for your thoughts. Smiley

Yes, this issue hit faucet owner quite hard. They said it was because faucet sites violate their T&C of "paying user to click ads".

The real humans who visite those faucets, the just want the satoshis and do not care about ads.
And the many bots who visit faucets even care less about ads.
To me it makes no sense to advertise on faucets.

That's true of just about all advertising ever. I'll give you three examples:

1) Commercial websites. You go to CNN for news, not the ads; you use gmail for the service, not the ads placed in them. The ads just support the business of delivering news or e-mail.

2) People watching TV programs don't care about the ads, they just want the program. The value for the advertisers lies in the fact that people see the ads, regardless of whether they want to or not.

3) Nobody really cares to see or seeks out to see billboards on the side of the highway. There's usually never anything terribly interesting on them. However, that's valuable advertising space because so many people see them anyway.

In summary, advertising is a numbers game. The more eyeballs you deliver, the more valuable your advertising space is. Nobody wants to see the ads, but that's not terribly relevant. The only difference for faucets is so much traffic is generated by bots, and bots don't have eyes, therefore provide zero value to advertisers. This is why incentive-based traffic (like faucets) is prohibited by AdSense and other advertising networks.

But that has nothing to do with people not wanting to see the ads.
