Given the following...

Quote
Largest width 11 1/2in
carved from crystallized calcite, the irregularly shaped circular disk pierced through the center and with natural stone undulations on the surface.

Sold for US$ 10,370 inc. premium

...could enough information be gleaned from the internet to get an accurate dollar figure with a 95+% degree of certainty?

Since we already have a dollar figure attached to a known size of one coin, how hard could it be? All we now need is:

  • The exact number of coins still on the island.
  • Their exact size if at all possible, possibly consider their weight as a measuring device.
  • Adjust the sale price to take into consideration inflation.

There might be a consideration or two I'm forgetting, but you get the idea. The more information gleaned, the more accurate the calculation would be.

Once calculated, an app could be built to show the daily market cap of Yapese stone money know as Rai Stones (Rai stones).
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.
