Hello all. I would like to ask you on your experience with mixing bitcoins. I found bitmixer.io, but some people say they are not trustworthy see example: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3yklrd/accidentally_sent_btc_to_bitmixer_donation/
So it is OK or not?
Anyway, is there any better way to anonymously mix bitcoins and loose connection with bitcoins? And for free or low fees?
I heard that blockchain offers anonymous service that makes every transaction with new address and makes bitcoins anonymous.
I know that bitcoins can be tracked using blockchain but can anyone explain me how can "hunters" track it if I send for example: 1 BTC 20 times on different addresses and changing amount and then get them on 1 address. How can the be sure that I am the same person and track me? (Using TOR ofcourse, that will not reveal my IP.) If they couldnt, then mixers would be useless.
And what if I send 1 BTC to localbitcoins account for example and withdraw it in 1 week later? Localbitcoins addresses have probably big turnover (not only localbitcoins but any other service that has big turnover). How could anyone track me then?
Sorry for long post but can anyone get into the answer and explain it? See you Smiley

How can the be sure that I am the same person and track me? (Using TOR ofcourse, that will not reveal my IP.) If they couldnt, then mixers would be useless.

If you made 20 hops and most of your original Bitcoin ends again in one address, it doesnt help you much. On the other hand, you get different coins from Mixer than you deposited (coins from someone else who deposited), there should be no taint analyse possible anymore from the coins you get from mixer to point to your original Bitcoin address anymore, and your original Bitcoin gets somebody else who deposit to mixer later. But who using mixer and what coins you get? Go figure.

And what if I send 1 BTC to localbitcoins account for example and withdraw it in 1 week later? Localbitcoins addresses have probably big turnover (not only localbitcoins but any other service that has big turnover). How could anyone track me then?

You going to get different coin, so it help. But the service might keep all logs of particular account, like what Bitcoin address used for deposit and what Bitcoin address used for withdrawal. And because when analyzing the blockchain you might figure the Bitcoin was deposited to particular well know service, then a request from authorities to this service to reveal withdrawal address from the logs could help keep tracking your Bitcoin. If you used exchange and converted to altcoin, its the same if the exchange service keeps the logs (and it should, because if some bug happens it needs to be able to reconstruct things from the past).

the function of bitcoin mixer is to make you anonymous and not traced so they'll not going to reveal your ip address, and bitmixer.io seems trustworthy enough to be your choice as far,or if you don't sure just try another mixer like [banned mixer] they're having interface almost the same,i guess you'll find it easy, and yeah sometimes exchanger could make your bitcoin untraced because they'll mix it to their balance and unite it but if someone just ask to the support maybe they'll show to which account the bitcoin will be stored

Mixiers ok, but you need to trust them and pay for their service. You need to trust them that (1) they dont long anything, (2) they dont run with your bitcoins, (3) you wont end up with "dirtier" bitcoins than your own.

The last point is important. What if, after mixin, you end up with bitcoins used in child pornography. Law enformance are tracking such bitcoin, e.g.:

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36734658

They are companies dedicated to tracking bitcoins and de-anonymizing them. You read what they do, maybe will help you to avoid them. Some of them are:

https://www.elliptic.co/
https://www.chainalysis.com/

Bitcoin is NOT anonymous: http://www.bitcoinisnotanonymous.com

If you are into bitcoi mix please be wary not to use BitcoinMix.org and Bitcoin-Mix.com theay are already labelled as a scam site after many users have reported that they lost their bitcoins. Im not sure if there are other bitcoin mix sites out there who are also a scam site. So a this point please be careful where you put your bitcoins. Its better that you use blockchain wallet instead which is more safer.

Ay if you send the coins with wallet1 and you will receive it with wallet2, they will see a link between the two wallets, if then you will send a coin using a mixer, they will not know that the bitcoin came from wallet1. Did you get it?

There's no good reason to use a mixing service. You can get the same results more reliably and with much lower fees by mixing your coins on the altcoin exchanges. Here's how it works:

1) Deposit your bitcoins on the altcoin exchange of your choice
2) Spend those bitcoins to buy the altcoin of your choice
3) Withdraw your newly purchased altcoins and deposite them at a second altcoin exchange that trades that altcoin
4) Use your altcoins to purchase bitcoins, withdraw

That's it, you have now mixed your own bitcoins without having to trust a mixer not to steal your coins. Altcoin exchanges charge about 0.2% trading fees, so this method will cost you about 0.4%, compared to the 1.5-2% the mixers cost. Of course no method will make your coins 100% untraceable, but using exchanges should be enough for any purposes short of ISIS financing or comparably bad stuff. If you want an extra layer of anonymity then you can increase the number of exchanges you use to 3, 4, or however many exchanges you can find. You can use multiple altcoins, etc. etc. It's a very effective method, don't bother with mixers.
An alternative would be to use altcoins altogether for *some* of your transactions. Litecoin is pretty stable and almost exactly follows bitcoin's price movement.

Like has been said, using a mixer could make you end up with a "dirtier" coin than your own. i think it would be better if you just send to a exchange and wait a few days.

That I can catch from him is using xapo or coinbase will receive a new address from coinbase and if you wanna to sending your amount from coinbase wallet to another wallet. it's will come from the different address from coinbase, not from your coinbase wallet address.

As far as I can see, mixing bitcoin is really something that people do when they obtained "dirty" coins and try to wash them. However, when you are mixing your coins, the chances are there you will get back "dirty" coins from other sources. Also, there are risk that the operator decided  to create a "system error" or some sorts and you may never see your coins.

Coinbase doesn't mix coin very well. If you try using the "taint analysis" in blockchain.info, you will still see the links between your coins and where you have obtained them from.

you are saying if you don't trust bitmixer, a well known, established service that has been around for a couple of years then you should use a brand new service that has been around for a couple of months!

to OP: if you like you can change bitcoin to an altcoin (eg LTC) using a service like shapeshift and then back to bitcoin this way reaching what you want. although shapeshift may keep logs of the transactions because it is not a mixing service.

While your method is quite good you might have left a paper trail at least one of the exchanges, who know your email address, possibly other personal information and your true IP address. Here is an alternate method:

1) Using a VPN connect to shapeshift.io and use bitcoin to buy Monero and store in your local Monero wallet
2) Again using a VPN connect to xmr.to and sell your Monero for bitcoin and send to a local bitcoin wallet.

Why Monero? It intrinsically has a higher degree of privacy than Bitcoin due to the Cryptonote protocol used. It will be impossible to link the bitcoin you received back from xmr.to with the bitcoin you sent to shapeshift.io

Sorry I was accurate enough. Yes, I understand that when sending bitcoins from 1 wallet to another, there is connection... but to explain, I was wondering: I have for example 1 BTC on one wallet. I send 10 transactions to 10 different addresses on one another BTC wallet or make 10 wallets and send 0.1 on every wallet. Can not it confuse a person who wants to track me? They may think that I made 10 diferrent payments and I do not own that bitcoins anymore

I beg to differ with you on that. Both of these services are suffering from having to adhere to strict KYC and AML regulations. They will turn you over to the authorities so quickly, it will make your head spin. OP, I have not had trouble with the company in my signature and I have been using them for years now. ^smile^ < Bitmixer.io >

these days you can easily obfuscate your coins yourself
(trezor makes this a very simple task)
there is no real need to mix/tumble coins anymore
and when mixing, all you are doing is mixing dirty for dirty so a bit pointless

there are also numerous ways to exchange coins
like trading for altcoins and back
play poker against yourself etc.
but these will cost a bit to do

other than that you have Helix (2.5%)
that will give you new unsed coins

one other thing to note, is where you spend coins
and why you need them mixed
ignore the paranoid info you can read everywhere,
posted by mixers that want your 3% commision
unless you plan to hold the btc for a long time
or you plan to use an exchange like coinbase to cash out
there is no real need to mix

I beg to differ with you on that. Both of these services are suffering from having to adhere to strict KYC and AML regulations. They will turn you over to the authorities so quickly, it will make your head spin. OP, I have not had trouble with the company in my signature and I have been using them for years now. ^smile^ < Bitmixer.io >

I agree. Xapo and Coinbase are one of the worst companies in the Bitcoin sphere. I would avoid them at all costs, even if you don't have the intention to mix your coins. As far as I know, Bitmixer.io is a non-scam business - at least there are no real reports and the service is operating for years now.

An alternative way to get rid of the government spying agencies is to buy / sell altcoins. Shapeshift.io might be a useful service in that regard. Of course, even better than using services of any company is doing p2p trades. While requiring more effort, this way you can get rid of any automatic logging and support the idea of decentralization as well.

KYC and AML is a disease. These measures are totally ineffective to fight crime, their only purpose is to spy on the average citizen to be able to extort more dues and taxes in future. Any Bitcoin company that implements these measure should be boycotted.

I think bitcoin mixer is a think for people who are to paranoic. I mean, I guess different websites you use to buy something with btc already use cryptomixing and there is no need to do it once again

Good idea to use Monero, as it does have built-in stealth features. But be careful about relying too much on VPNs for anonymity. VPN's provide privacy but not anonymity. Whoever runs your VPN has direct access to your true IP address, and you can only take their word that they won't share that info with third parties.

If I were using your method I would use tor instead of vpn, if shapeshift and xmr are tor-capable

Both shapeshift.io and xmr.to work fine over Tor. You just have to whitelist the sites in Tor browser so they can execute scripts.

i don't know about xapo because i have never checked them out but i find coinbase a very useful service for "newbies". although there has been some complains about their services recently but i think they are still one of the simplest ways for a new user to start using bitcoin to buy/sell/hold bitcoin all in one place.

I agree that shapeshift is a good way, but you have to make sure that their funds get used up to get rid of the chance of any "dirty" coins landing in your new address.

Change into LTC, wait maybe a week or so so that their coins are already probably replaced, then change back to BTC.
As time consuming and laborious as this sounds, it may work.

If you don't like waiting, Bitmixer.io is legit.

For a very long time Xapo was the default faucet payout system, until they decided to start to join the KYC and AML trend. This chased away a lot of people, because most people used these kind of services for the low fees and the multiple accounts for different faucets. So yes, Xapo is also not a Bitcoin friendly service, in regards to privacy.

That is the reason to use Monero. No waiting needed. I do agree it is good practice to change bitcoin to Monero using shapeshift then back to bitcoin using xmr.to. The transaction trail is completely broken. You can always use the taint analysis tool at blockchain.info to check.
