Hello everyone,

I know this discussion has been here before, but I think it is an issue that is more pressing then ever now with the new bitcoin prices. I think we should no longer deal in BTC, but in mBTC.

When I tell someone to buy 1 BTC for for example 1000 CZK (Czech fiat currency) it sounds pretty awful. If I told him to buy 1 mBTC for 1 CZK, it does not sound too bad at all.

I propose that we start by showing the amount in our wallets in mBTC. People should get used to the new denomination in bitcoin.

What do you guys think?

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

Well, that is optional for each user now.  Are you suggesting to change the default to mBTC?

yeah, that would make sense. I'm also thinking we should get into the mBTC mindset when we're talking about bitcoins / explaining them to someone...

I think generally referring to BTC as uBTC makes a lot of sense in almost every regard.

I will be happy when everyone including twitter price tickers adopt this form of pricing, someone clever.. make it happen.

A notable initiative is to reserve an ISO code (like EUR, USD) for Bitcoin. BTC is apparently taken, but introducing XBT as a unit equal to 100 Satoshis seem to find support,
especially since it allows representation of Bitcoin in legacy financial systems (accounting, book keeping etc that can only deal with 1/100 precision of a currency)

See vote and reasoning and discussion in:

I think mBTC and uBTC are rather engineer type solutions, alien to mainstream user whereas the XBT would foster adoption and open Bitcoin to legacy systems.

I've been thinking it's high time other clients than Bitcoin-Qt allow mBTC/µBTC/satoshi display options. I actually want my Bitcoin for Android app to show amounts in mBTC rather than full BTC. Maybe the same goes for blockchain.info now too.

I think a BitCent (1/100) option makes even more cents.  Wink
