I don't know. Is it? Obviously I'm not implying that anybody or any 'coin' is racist, just pointing the possibility for awkwardness if it gets popular and then the mainstream media has a field day, potentially attacking them from a completely ridiculous angle. E.g.: I heard that in France the Toyota MR2 had to be renamed so that it didn't sound like one of their local swear words

Don't shoot the messenger! I was just mentioning it because I think Litecoin gives Bitcoin some much-needed competition, and I don't want it to see it get shot down for something so silly. Who knows, maybe "Bitcoin" sounds like "vagina" in Vietnamese? But we'll never know unless someone points it out.

Any deleterious effects of the Polish thinking this is "whitecoin" will easily be offset by the Japanese being assured that this is the "ritecoin".

There will always be names which sound bad in some circumstances.
And there is no way you are ever going to have a perfect name, so why worry?
If big companies can invest billions in cars and still get the name wrong - how much damage can it do?

I didn't know Ł was pronounced as a w. I don't think any other English speakers will either (unless you just happen to know this language ) On top of that, Litecoin doesn't use the Ł in its name, only in its currency symbol, just like we say Bitcoin but never mean BTCitcoin. Wouldn't mind a Łitecoin made just for us Łities tho Just kidding. I'm not Łite.

Racist but funny! Seriously, are we really discussing that Łitecoin is pronounced "whitecoin" in Polish? And we should change the name because of that? I'm guessing both the Wii and the iPad were utter failures because of their names. And nothing came of a company with a stupid name like "micro" "soft".
