same /\ In a normal recession people stop spending and a bank / state promoting this kind of theft could encourage people to take money from banks and spend it, however we are not in a normal recession like days of old.

I say let the big banks have their monopoly money back the smaller banks will just have to resort to Bitcoin while the Big banks get bailed out and eventually "dissolve"

Now if that ain't the damndest thing I ever heard. Talk about a perfectly timed coincidence! Any history of this happening before? You'd figure a big bank like Chase wouldn't make these kinds of mistakes.

If it has to happen here in Canada, you can be sure that I will empty my bank account and turn ALL my savings to the last cent into bitcoin. This is pure robbery!

My personality type: INTJ - please forgive my weaknesses (Not naturally in tune with others feelings; may be insensitive at times, tend to respond to conflict with logic and reason, tend to believe I'm always right)

If they try that here in Australia my money will be withdrawn immediately. They can get stuffed.

You - and others on this thread - seem to believe you'd have enough warning. Did the Cypriots? They found out about it and the banks were closed, pretty much at the same time. Next time this happens, wherever it happens, it will be better synchronized, and any window of opportunity will be closed. They call that "practice". And it seems clear that this will happen again. You might want to re-think the point at which you withdraw your money. I have.

That seems a lot like buying fire insurance if your house burns down.

Well no, not really There'll be talk before this policy is introduced (I have ears in the financial system as it is), and I'm sure they won't suddenly ban people from withdrawing their own money I know the sky is falling etc etc but let's try and have a little common sense at least.
