yes of course. Stealing bitcoin is illegal. from the word itself "Stealing". we all know that stealing is illegal. all of us are working very hard to earn bitcoin and then someone who has a power to steal has stealed all of your bitcoin from your wallet, do you think it is legal? those who steal may have some suspension or worst, be jailed. it is not fair really.

What is the meaning of Stealing - it means that you are taking others belongings without their consent, which is anything that is considered as stealing , and bitcoin is not other it is also the same thing, But for other stealing their is a law and you can catch the thief but in bitcoin you cannot find who have stolen your bitcoins through Wallet address as it dont contain any information about the owner of that wallet address. That is why most of them today are mostly on stealing bitcoin as it is untraceable.

( Re: Is stealing Bitcoin illegal? )

So, when you asked your lawyer this question, what did he say?

I believe it depends on the quality of the lawyer..
~

Yes, it depends on the quality of the lawyer and as we know a good lawyer can make you go free from the court even if you've committed a crime, but still we can see and decide by ourselves whether the thing is right or not. Stealing Bitcoin is like stealing any other valuable thing, it's illegal and it's really bad in general.

Why? Who said stealing Ethereum is legal? I believe stealing any crypto currency is illegal, even if there is no authority who could hunt the thiefs.

Let's say I generate a new address and by some miracle it has Bitcoin already in it belonging to somebody else. Is it legal to just take it? I understand those odds are very low, no need to lecture me, I'm just interested.
From your topic you already said stealing and you are still asking whether stealing of bitcoin is legal, please it's very illegal to steal any man's property be it bitcoin or not
I think it is not form of stealing because bitcoin wallet not gives you already owned bitcoin address they always gives a unique bitcoin address if your generated address has bitcoin already you are lucky but do not think the bitcoin included have owned already.
That's even beyond lucky to receive and address that is pre-owned by someone else. That is actually a glitch and it would be needing a fix as soon as possible. More over bitcoin addresses are designed to be unique always at an incredible amount.

I'll bet one dollar if anyone manages to generate an address which already has BTC in it.

The probability to get struck by lightning 4 times in a day is bigger than that.
Lol I thought it was an impossible thing happens I'll bet a few dollars if there is someone who gets bitcoin when they do generete bitcoin address, and bitcoin already exists at that address lol. because it is an impossible thing to happen. generete address is an address that has not been used and is still new. so there may be people wrong before sending money to that address is impossible

I think OP just wanted to justify that Bitcoin Stealing is not illegal, but he dont know that stealing is a stealing which means you are taking others things without getting their permission. Whether it is bitcoin or anything, which ever is taken without permission of the owner is considered as Illegal and as per law it is punishable, but in bitcoin it is hard to find the thief/hacker who have stolen or hacked the wallet and took the bitcoins from other wallet address, as it dont have the details about the holder of that wallet.

I believe thats also, its a very rare situation which a newly generated  address have already a balance or   owned already by someone else. Its definitely a glitch or bug by the system. Thats very an unusual thing to happen in generating  new address which to be unique.

stealing of course illegal. but if what you say it, I think not a theft, when you generate a new address and in it there bitcoin belongs to someone else. but if you know the owner, it may be better to restore it. if you do not know the owner, meaning it belongs to you, and not considered as stealing.

Exactly, stealing of bitcoin is illegal but I am thinking of how you are going to steal bitcoin from other bitcoin people or it is just a matter of scamming them or if not by forcing to beg them to give you bitcoins. But in any ways of stealing it is always been against the law of the people. And it is not good at all to steal any kind of goods.

I guess that stealing Bitcoin is illegal because if they do not belong to you then it is still considered stealing even if people think that Bitcoin is illegal as well.
So yes stealing Bitcoin is still not legal but there is not much that can be done if it happens.

I think that is not stealing bitcoins because you got it with luck. I mean well, yes though that BTC is also someone else's money but you don't know if that is real btc or lost btc ( sometimes sent to wrong address ) so maybe you are doing a favor by bringing more btc in market.

Yes! Of course stealing bitcoin is illegal. Still, if you find a forgotten wallet/lost wallet, it'll not be illegal. Because, owner of those bitcoin might have forgot about that.
disagree you are wrong because stealing of bitcoin is illegal in any situation ,so you can not say legal if one person steal bitcoin from other .
Agree with you about this but have one question then what to do with this if some one find any forgotten/lost wallet because he has no contact or any thing about him ?
If you find a lost wallet or a forgotten wallet, then I guess it's both fine and not fine to spend them for yourself as the decision would depend on how you would see it for yourself. Since, you do not have any contact with the owner of the wallet, it would be a waste to just leave the coins in there but then again, the owner might have been saving those coins for a long-term and you just happen to accidentally run across it.
Suppose you do not take that money then how can you make sure that money is someone else's ?
I think you should take it and not spend for long time maybe 2 months and if you see a claim been made, kindly repay it.
