Have been getting this message all day: "Sorry, the maximum number of purchases on Coinbase has been reached at the moment. This is a 24 hour rolling limit with no specific start time. Please try again later. We'll continue raising this limit over time."

Finally, my 1 BTC test purchase at Coinbase just went through at 1:30 CDT.

If you've been trying to purchase bitcoins with Coinbase, there will probably be a short window of availability there.

i'm trying for over 2 days to buy btc using coinbase and can't figure it out when the window will appear. Also it might be from btc going up and that's why there is such a huge demand to purchase and not to sell btc. last month wasn't a problem buying btc all day long, now you have to try several hours to grab some btc from them

I just bought some an hour ago. Crossing my fingers the market doesn't crash before it arrives.

Bought last week at 45, now my Coinbase transaction won't leave the Pending status that it should have left yesterday. I am not happy.

Ok, mine came thru yesterday evening. I'm still concerned about the lack of consistency with their money handling.

Yes, me.

I sent out btc shortly before the outage of yesterday and that's still pending.

I bought 10 that were supposed to clear yesterday and still haven't, and since they were my first purchase at coinbase, i can't buy more until the transaction completes.
Getting pretty irritated at missing buying opportunities.

I made my first purchase a while ago and that's in a wallet. They sent me a file, hell I don't know what it does but I double encrypted it and stored it someplace. I guess they are holding it secure with their red team / blue team security. The second purchase is not confirmed but confirmed is the ACH withdrawal so I've got records. I'm fine with waiting.

What I don't understand about coinbase is how to transfer or spend my coins. I am a total and absolute bitnewb but I am certainly willing to toss a few dollars in to supporting this startup. It is a risk I'll take to help to 1. help remove fraud from financial transactions, 2. reduce costs to consumers, 3. free government from the grips of the financial industries.

My transaction is still pending.... It was suppose to clear Thursday evening, it is now Saturday morning. Long delay since it was my first transaction with coinbase.

Made this transaction about the same time as a bitinstant transfer. With all the problems BitInstant is having they were still fast than coinbase at this point.

Good luck everyone!

assuming this is an honest technical issue and coinbase hasn't officially gone tits up... have they destroyed faith to the point they can still operate or is this a death nail?

They have plenty of work to do but right now it's just growing pains. They are a legitimate company with a lot of funding. Plus working with USA and banking regulations must be a nightmare.

I've used it to cash out a number of times, with no problems.  Something like $1,000 spread across 4 cash outs.  I did try to buy once, but was told the daily limit was reached.  So I use other sources to buy and Coinbase to cash out.

I'm very curious to see if coinbase will lose a large number of users after this.  I have been waiting almost a week for coins to clear, but will stick with coinbase due to the convenience.

And there it is; as inconvenient as Coinbase is they still offer the most convenience.

Fuck, I wish I could code so I could make something better. The market is so large now that if someone made a reliable easy exchange it would be huge.

Just got this pretty quickly after formally complaining...

Quote
Joseph P replied:
We have been working hard to re-architect our backend to keep up with growth. The demand for bitcoin recently has been amazing and the site has received a large increase in traffic. We realize it is very frustrating to have transactions stuck in a pending state. Rest assured that they will go out. This delay definitely wasn’t our intention; the growth caught us off guard and it’s been pretty embarrassing to let down our customers.

We plan to have all the transactions go through and be cleared up by tomorrow. Thank you for bearing with us as we try to keep up with the growth of bitcoin!

This is probably as good a time as any to mention that if you are in the SF bay area and know an awesome software engineer, we’re hiring: https://coinbase.com/jobs . As you can tell, we have no shortage of things we need to build!

I wonder how much higher the exchange rate would be had they not been botched all week.

I would be wary, I've bought 3 coins from them a week ago (before the issues started). Now, I'm currently sitting at -10 coins. Still waiting a response from them.

Coinbase is a joke now. In order to purchase you are buying at an unknown price nearly a week into the future. The primary strength of Coinbase previously was the ability to buy Bitcoins at current market price with a bank account. Yes, you had to wait for funds to clear and all that rigamarole but you could lock in the price you were willing to buy at. With the volatility in the BTC market only a fool would commit to a purchase at a price to be determine 5-6 days in the future.
