Have you tried to follow the instructions in the manual? Start from http://www.gpg4win.org/doc/en/gpg4win-compendium_11.html - there are a few pages before with lots of words that don't say very much.

yeah, i read the whole thing twice, and followed along. Its a bit old. For the email, I had to figure out a workaround because it only tells you how to use the outlook browser plug. I understand the concepts, can encrypt/decrypt email and files, just don't get the pm thing. I tried encrypting a notepad sketch then copy paste into dialog, but it doesnt work. Ill figure it out, I just get frustrated and ask for help too soon sometimes!
cant find a gmail/firefox plug either, the firegpg or whatever is out of production. Didn't spend too much time searching though...

Use Klepatra. Copy your text, right click the Kleopatra icon, and choose "encrypt". The encrypted stuff will be on your clipboard.

Kleopatra sucks, though, so I often use the command-line. From the command-line, run something like gpg --encrypt --armor -r "theymos". Then enter your message and type Ctrl-Z when you're done.

Yeah okay, got it. Wow, that is kinda clunky isnt it? I didn't realize you had to right click the icon to get to clipboard. duh.
thanx!
