Hello.

I am completely new to this and at present only have CPU.

I joined the pool recently and ran GUIminer for a few hours, it just said "connecting".

Then I came across the info about the proxy and I ran that, and put the correct host address into GUIminer.

I left it overnight and it still says "connecting".

Is this a normal wait for work due to demand or is something not working for me?  Huh

Thanks.

No that isn't normal.  You have something wrong.  You should get work within seconds.  Then again CPU mining is worthless.  Might be more profitable to do pen and paper mining.

Did you download the Bitcoin client and generate yourself a bitcoin address?
Then did you enter a pool address? 50BTC pays daily.
Not sure if a CPU will generate much, get a cheap Ati 5830 graphics card of ebay 260 MH/s and you'll have about 0.8 BTC a month.

Yes I put the pool address, and then when I used the proxy I used the host address as per the instructions.

Thanks for the estimate of what I may mine with hardware. Will it drop as more miners appear?

I know CPU is poor, I just wanted to know everything worked before buying hardware.

Can I use multiple graphics cards in one computer?

That's not an estimate of what you would mine with your hardware, that's the name of a mining pool. You wouldn't mine enough Bitcoins to pay half the cost of the additional power your CPU would draw.

Are you saying that 0.8 BTC per month from an ATI 5830 is not an estimate from Gator-Hex (i.e. he means something else) or that he is lying?

Did you read the third line of my last post?

Thanks.

You can use these web pages to calculate your income from mining

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

260 MH/s 0.8BTC pm is really what my £60/$90 5830s produce right now but as price/difficulty rises/falls this can change.

www.50BTC.com is the name of a mining pool named back when we used to get 50 coins for solving a block, instead of 25!  Cheesy
