"Given that bitcoin and the blockchain are still misunderstood in the eyes of the public, industry proponents have long sought to showcase how the digital currency’s attributes can be used to the advantage of global relief and philanthropy efforts.
For incumbent financial services firms, eager to avoid the negative connotations bitcoin can bring, such efforts are often the first step in their engagement with the industry.
This year, UK banking giant Barclays and investment firm Fidelity each announced their first foray into bitcoin and blockchain. Both projects were advertised as benefitting those in need. "
edit:*forgot to add my comment I think its a good move to bring the world to a better place. I found this article and i was intrigued by how much bitcoin has grown and how dependent it has become to help those in need. I also read in some other thread that bitcoin is being used for relief efforts across the globe to help those who have just faced a natural disaster.

As bitcoin grows it is inevitable that it will be used for charity and other things (even crime). Any payment method will have such uses once they grow large enough. And yes, it is good for both bitcoin and the people.

I have seen bitcoin be using many times in the donation websites, also few users here use bitcoin for charity. For example, bitcoincharity.org aka donatemedia accepts bitcoin for donation, few members also wear signature here. Bitcoin is spread everywhere and accepting donations on bitcoin is fantastic.

That's true but I don't think normal users who are working really hard to earn bitcoin will believe in charity and will prefer to donate their hard earned coins.

I can't argue that bitcoin should be used for good causes like charity and such, but let's face it - there's little response for noble causes compared to less noble ones. Recent articles about political parties starting to use bitcoin to fund their campaigns on the other hand.. that's where things will erupt...

Saying the truth bitcoin is not as hard as we think to own, people can work hard besides bitcoin (paypal or in real life) and then buying bitcoins and still able to donate, but for people that earn only in bitcoin that's a bit hard for them. If people do not trust these charity websites then this is another thing to be discussed.

Let's be realistic for a moment here, we are living in a reality where half of world's wealth now in hands of 1% of population.
I don't have more recent data, but according to Wikipedia:
In 2007, 147 companies controlled nearly 40 percent of the monetary value of all transnational corporations.
Bitcoin initiatives are amazing and it is great that people are trying, but without the richest people helping we have very little chance to change the world for good. We can only patch its wounds.

Uh huh, plus the total value of all bitcoin in existence is low enough that Warren Buffett could buy it all if he wanted to. And most bitcoiners are young folks not (yet) into philanthropy. I will never give to a charity whilst I'm alive. I don't believe in it.

Actually Most users are not prefered to donate some of their coins to the charity websites of course how can we be sure that our donations will be truly going through the real charity and reaches those people i need . And we are not actually sure that these websites are real charity websites .

There are lots of helping hands in bitcoin community, especially those who have enough to donate. I saw this thread yesterday here in the forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=351789.0 Bitcoin Omega Scholarship, it aims to give scholarship to the low-income kids on Africa through bitcoin. The idea was great imo, and the plan is good as well since you'll be having an update with the kids. There have been sponsors who did pledge, but sadly it seems that the plan will not proceed anymore.

I agree it's great if Btc is used more for charity and everything. This way it can overcome the popularity of a currency used for illegal activities because of its anonymity

Seeing how threads like this, where we discuss bitcoin as new era financial tool useful for helping people in need are unpopular among bitcoiners. I doubt that Bitcoin will have a huge impact, if any on the charity world. I guess you can receive tax refund for bitcoin donations...

This isn't something new to me. I've personally seen some of my friends doing some charity work. For the poor and homeless, and somewhat for the publicity of bitcoins. It's like hitting two birds with one stone. Although that might not have sounded very well as some people would think that they are only scheming of making bitcoins popular.

Would think that this would be one of the primary features of the bitcoin, least as far as use cases go. It's simply perfect for setting up a virtual deposit box anyone could access to fund. But instead of charities, we get icos. If BitcoinsNotBombs, or the btc food for homeless dude here had gotten 1% of the DAO funding, lives would have actually been changed.

Bitcoins is simply money and money can be used to help those in distress. It just means that those banks you mentioned have decided to send money in form of bitcoins, that's all.
It goes to show how well the society has absorbed the idea of cryptocurrency.
