Idea: Text-based Role Playing Game w/ Rewards?

Not sure if this belongs in Gambling, but couldn't find a more appropriate location.

I have an idea for a role-playing game that you can buy into and earn BTC to buy items, or feed additional BTC to jump ahead in equipment.

I'm not certain of the details, I would have to work out the fairness model and specifically how you would interact with it... but I am querying the community to see if there is any interest.

If so, I'll try to work out the details, be it draw up my own IRC bot, modify an existing game, or something else.
If there is any profit to be made somehow, I'd consider offering "shares" for buy-in to fund necessary items.

I'd totally play something like that. Why not modify something like Merc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merc_(MUD) or similar MUD engine?

I created a MUD way back in the day. I kinda handed it off to the other admins and semi involved developer.

Last I checked it is no longer running.

I assume people do not play MUDs anymore.

Also you cannot modify a Merc/diku/etc code and charge money. The license does not allow for making money.
