Breadwallet is an innovative wallet, I have been using the beta and like it a lot. It only runs on Marshmallow and I do wish it were possible to change the units as bitcoin is only displayed in bits. Good work!

Oh I haven't heard about Breadwallet before. Seems to be good, since the team is assuring that Breadwallet is secure enough to store funds even if it's a million or more (well they say there is no limit). And another good thing I found out is that, Breadwallet enables managing your private keys. So for me it's great that if I use it, I am allowed to move my coins.

Quote
“We’re the security experts, so you don’t have to be, and we’re confident every Breadwallet is secure enough to even store a million dollars or more,” the team explains. “If you have a device running Android 6.0 or higher, look us up in the Play Store. We’ll be waiting!”

Well, that is a stretch for me. I would have no problem storing a few bitcoin on Breadwallet but any more than that I want private keys in a true hardware wallet like Trezor. I do not trust the security of Android M that much.

Breadwallet is the flagship of security regarding mobile wallets in the iOS system and Iphones and Ipads. Now they have released a version for the android market and for me thats a very welcome move. We will see some tough competition now between the flagship of security so far in Android which is Mycelium and the Breadwallet. In the end the winner will be the consumer as I am sure both these companies will try to improve a lot their wallets in order to come on top and get the very high users base with an android phone. I am expecting upgrades from the Mycelium wallet now that they are not alone anymore.

This is great news, the best mobile wallet now on Android too. Unfortunately I have no Android devices with Android M. I'll see if I can update my tablet when I have time...

I wonder if this runs on rooted devices.

Developer strongly advised not using Breadwallet on rooted phones citing verified boot security has been compromised on rooted devices. You can find his comments on this reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/4hbejr/breadwallet_is_coming_to_android_and_needs_beta/?st=iqy9ocpt&sh=9e3d8697

What? Nougat is unreleased, only announced.

OP correctly states Android M on the thread subject... Smiley

Thank you. This was to be expected. Good to see breadwallet's pratices on iOS didn't change on Android.

No he means Android M (Marshmallow). Nougat has not been released to the public. Even Google's own Nexus phones have not updated to Nougat yet.

LOOLL this was a tremendous typo by me, srry...and i think this may run on rooted since i have multiples btc wallets on a 4.4 android rooted, with no problems.

This is not your regular wallet app.

As linked before on this thread, apparently you cannot run it on rooted phones. Here's a direct link to that. But this being Android there are probably ways to bypass this and I'm curious if breadwallet circumvents any bypasses.

It runs fine on a rooted Marshmallow device... I know, because I just installed it and it is running fine Wink

What it does do, is pop up a big scary warning saying that "the device security is compromised because it is rooted and any app can access any other app's keystore data and steal your bitcoins"... which is technically true, but only if an app has been granted root permissions... so like with most security things, you need to be smart and sensible about what you're doing with your device...

Having a rooted device doesn't mean any old app can just auto install and steal all your data/bitcoins... first of all it has to get on your device, then you have to run it... then you have to grant it root permissions...

Anyway, as far as the app goes... it looks OK... but @breadwallet_dan will you be putting in a "dark" theme? That VERY bright white theme is a killer for my eyes  Undecided  And I know all the AMOLED screen device users will love you for sparing their batteries by offering a black theme  Wink

What doesn't seem fair is that upon actually trying to use the wallet to do anything... it kept throwing up an error demanding that I change my keyboard because custom input is "unsafe"...

I was using Google Keyboard??!? Huh

It effectively makes the app unusable... as any time I do anything, it comes up with the error and opens the input settings dialog. I get that they dev is attempting to make it all nice and secure and stuff... but come on... That is just being a bit too paranoid.  Undecided

I suspect because the Keyboard is not the inbuilt system one and is downloaded is the reason it won't work, but I don't want to use the AOSP keyboard that is the "system" keyboard, I want to use Google Keyboard... made by Google and downloaded from Play Store...

AOSP and Google Keyboard are slightly different indeed, but I guess that should be flagged as a bug... Although it is possible to download an unsigned version of Google Keyboard and have issues. Post on their thread or send them an email, curious as to what the developers say about that.

Thanks for the heads up on this release. I have been using it on my phone for ages and say it is the most easiest wallet to have. So when I transfer to an android device I will be using it on there too. You will be appreciated to the OP once you start using it.

I thought this WAS bread wallet thread? But it seems breadwallet_dan just did a bit and run to advertise the Android version of bread wallet and then disappeared...  Undecided

To be honest, I just don't think it is for me anyway... I dislike the bright white theme... I disagree with their stance on keyboards, which obviously isn't a "bug", but a deliberate design choice... I do like their warning about operating on a Rooted device... I'm not sure why the keyboard thing can't be a warning as well.

Seems a bit like they're trying to bring iOS thinking and design to Android... which, imho, won't work...
