PIR (Public Interest Registry) is increasing wholesale prices for .ORG domains August 1st. PIR is raising the wholesale price, the price charged to registrars, $88 cents. That means it is going from $8.80 to $9.68 a year.

How does this affect you? If you own any .ORG domain names that means the price is going to increase at your domain name registrar.

Only some registrars have sent out announcements to customers about the .ORG price increase. If you have .ORG domains I recommend you renew/transfer now. If you have any .ORG domains you want to register go buy.

This is one of the reasons I don't support ICANN being a completely private entity.

Who owns .ORG domains?

What is the problem with $88 cents? If you have quality website. $88 cents can earned in one click via adsense.

It is a wholesale price charged by PIR, the .ORG registry. This is the price that a registrar is charged for a .ORG domain name.

A domain registrar sells .ORG domains, or other extensions, at a mark-up to a consumer.  Most registrars use registry price increases to up the domain pricing. Godaddy for instance is increasing .ORG prices by $2 after August 1st. Some registrars might be less, many will be increasing prices more than $2.

PIR has been price shopping for another technical backend provider.

Any registry domain increase is not justified since PIR is shopping for cheaper options and has given no reason for the increase.

So, yeah it annoys me. What's wrong with that? Also what is wrong with informing members here?
