I am currently in need of a bitcoin wallet app on Android. I am using the one by Bitcoin wallet developers at the moment but I need more than one. All the other wallets seem as though you have to create an account and I wanted to avoid this.  I was wondering if any other apps are available.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Electrum doesn't need you to create an account.  It's one of the most secure SPV wallets too.
Also there's mycelium but I don't know if you need to create an account to use it.

Trusted an exchange that climbed to the top 3 in just under 2 years with your money? you are fucking stupid.

I used Electrum because it was recommended to me when I started using Bitcoin.
The interface looks good and everything works well.
It did run a little slow when setting up the account, but I think thats because my phone is a few years old.

Just be sure to make a backup of your key and passphrase somewhere.
I write my keys to a text file and encrypt them, then save them on a computer and a couple USB sticks as backup in case of emergency.

I have just installed electrum and I have copied the phrase and entered a pin, this was not too much of a problem as I appreciate security of the wallet. It is currently generating the wallet addresses and has been on this for a while.

if i were you i would most probably go with the simple blockchain.info wallet because in my opinion it is really easy to use, besides that i have never had any problems with it

I'm starting Core for the first time today. Catching up...

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

I just edited my post to say that it took a long time when I first installed,
but I also think this is because my phone is old.
(3-4 years is a long time for a smartphone to be outdated)

Mycelium is the standard bitcoin wallet on Android and supports Trezor and Ledger. If your phone is running Marshmallow you need to take a look at Breadwallet, which takes full advantage of the hardware encryption available on Marshmallow. Either would work well for you. Marshmallow is quite secure so no one is breaking into your Breadwallet without your fingerprint and passcode.

You can't normally run bitcoin core on a phone. There is an app called ABCore you can run on Android but is not really meant for phones, you would need wifi for data and 128 GB storage.

I would bet that Breadwallet becomes the most popular bitcoin wallet for new phones. It is really very good.

If its the wallet that looks like the bitcoin symbol your using right now then i would ditch that soon as and install mycelium instead. Mycelium forces you to write down the password seed when you first start it so that you have a backup copy made. The wallet your using although its alright it doesnt offer the same incentive to backup which everyone who has a wallet should do. Either way though for android theres no beating mycelium.

You might want to consider XAPO. So far it has been working well for me on my Samsung Galaxy S6. I heard they have "military"-grade security for their cold wallets.

I do currently use a xapo purely for the fact that I do not have to pay fees. I was however looking for another wallet that does not require a sign up.

I rather would say go for the old names in the scene; blockchain and coinbase. Both have good security features and you can also sign messages with your key.

I tried the electrum wallet but it took to long to generate the wallet address (im not sure why this was). I am currently using the mycelium wallet and all is going well so far.

If you do not personally control the private keys to your bitcoin you do not really own them, you just have an IOU from the service you are using. The safest but still convenient way to keep absolute control of your bitcoin is to use a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger, both can be used with Mycelium on your phone. Breadwallet is second best choice in my opinion.

I personally use Electrum for a desktop wallet and I have a Blockchain.info wallet for use on mobile and for smaller amounts. I'd recommend not using web based wallets for a long-term storage or storing large amounts of money in - keeping your own wallet on your own PC to which you hold the private key is recommended as this is more secure - not relying on someone else's security to keep your money safe.

I do actually control the private keys to my wallet and needed an app I could import them into, that was the purpose of this thread, to find a wallet that I could import a private key into. I having been using mycelium for the past few hours and it seems ok so I think I will keep it.
