Hi,

Is there anyone out there who will be able to tell me if I can do better on one of my machines with the following specs;

Pentium Dual Core CPU
E5700 @3.Ghz
2.99Ghz, 2.00GB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

I am using the bitcoin-miner from Ufasoft with;

bitcoin-miner.exe -a 5 -o http://deepbit.net:8332 -u user@user.com -p userpass

The results;
7.0 MHash/s

Any advice to get the rate up are appreciated, please bear in mind that I am on the level before an Idiots Guide to pc's.

Thank you,

Hamburger

NVIDIA cards suck for mining, but is a win for gaming. Smiley
use the ATI 6xxx cards instead Smiley

Yes, as stated Nvidia cards are not as good for mining as ATI cards (this pretty much to every single card out there) due to it's architecture. If you want to look you can check here, it's pretty straightforward:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Why_a_GPU_mines_faster_than_a_CPU#Why_are_AMD_GPUs_faster_than_Nvidia_GPUs?

As for your optimal MH/s, I'm not too sure as I don't have that much experience with different hardware set-ups as I'm not a hardcore miner (I use a Nvidia card too!  Cheesy).

My Vapor-X 5870 mines better than either of my 6970's.  Not that you'd be able to find a 5870 cheao or at all anymore.

only use 6xxx.

Hi,

Thank you for the replies, I have to go with what I can afford.

How does the ATI Radeon 5670 1GB DDR5 PCI-E sound?

Will it be ok to use it and do I still use the same bitcoin-miner or do I need to use something else?

Thank you,

Hamburger

the 1GB ram is use less for mining. PCI-E is also. it is not a IO intensive application. but a calculation intensive one.
but else its fine. Smiley and you can use it for gaming too.

different sockets. pci is the old slow standard, pci-e is the new fast standard.

With a better Nvidia, you can get 140+ MH/s, but with better RadeonHD you can get 300+.

Maybe new Nvidia might change it up in the future..but right now ATI is the king of GPU mining. Not like it matters with ASICs coming online and the difficulty ramping up to an extreme..it seems like bitcoin is becoming much more of a have-and-have-not society.

Look for GPUs over 700 (57xx, 58xx, 59xx, 67xx, 68xx, 69xx, 77xx, 78xx, 79xx) anything under that (7450, 6670, etc) will totally suck for mining.

Best Buy had some 6770 at $89 + Tax a few weeks ago, I bought 3 Grin . Careful thought, they got the 6670 at the same price.
