Anyone else got screwed?

Buy at 70 with $1400 > Instantly crashes to 62
Raises back to 68 > Go to bed
Wake up 5 minutes after it has crashed to 55 > Sell at 56
Raises to 64

Quite the experience for a first time trader.
Now I have to leave for a few hours, not sure whether to buy in or not.

Don't do that!!

Don't get sucked in.

Buy and hold!

Greed is kicking in.
Come on, drop to 62 to fill my request and I will hold.

Hope it works out for you.

It did not...

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

The world is watching so lets not give them a repeat of the last crash without any flaw within Bitcoin itself.
There will be a final crash one day - hopefully not too long from now, so that it doesn't destroy too many people's savings - because there are indeed fatal flaws within Bitcoin itself. I just hope to be able to have some fun and take some of the wide-eyed fanboiz' money until then.

I too see a fatal flaw.
It's not clear to me that the Blockchain can be transported in the exodus to different star-systems once our Sun starts to die.  I just don't see how this can be done in a decentralized manner and still be considered the same Blockchain - especially, considering our ancestors will possibly not be evacuating to a single new location.

It will safe to fork blockchain (for every star) because you cannot double spend. :-)

Anyway, Satoshi is probably not from Japan but from Alpha Centauri.

They were like.. "WTF!? these monkeys still have not figured out how to do money? Hey Prometheus, transcode some our ancient code to their C++ and plant it, should be fun".

FIFY

If you want to dig your ancestors out of their graves to send them on a starship you could, but I don't think any of them will be up to using bitcoins.

But surely 'we' being such technology fans - will have uploaded ourselves into computer systems or otherwise morphed - so 'humanity' as a whole can be (loosely) considered our ancestors . As mere un-enhanced humans will be the last to leave the planet - it's they who will last be using the original unmoved blockchain.

Well ok - yes  that was an embarrassing mistake   Tongue

Anyone else got screwed?

Buy at 70 with $1400 > Instantly crashes to 62
Raises back to 68 > Go to bed
Wake up 5 minutes after it has crashed to 55 > Sell at 56
Raises to 64

Quite the experience for a first time trader.
Now I have to leave for a few hours, not sure whether to buy in or not.

Krabby, there are lots of pros in bitcoin; its an esoteric area with lots of econ ppl and traders.  Don't try to beat ppl who do it 40hrs a week.  Or plan to lose $.

Best strategy for an amateur in a security with strong fundamentals.  Buy on the dips and hold... hold hold!  Hold no matter what! :-)

There are two ways you could have done it better: 1 - Buy the bitcoins, turn off the computer and don't worry about their current price too much. When you want to buy something, check the price of bitcoins to decide if you want to spend a bit. Put in some sell orders for a percentage of your holdings at prices that seem absurd to lock in gains so you won't miss price spikes (like sell 50% when the price hits 2x what you paid, or 10% when the price hits 1.5x or however you want to set it up). 2 - instead of buying it all in one chunk, buy some now and put in some buy offers below the current price. Even though you look at mt gox and there are $300000000 between the current price and 90% of that price, the market is very volatile and there is a chance your lowball offer will get filled eventually.

No. The lesson is nothing new. You start daytrading any market and pros will tear you a new one.

+1 This is one reason I don't trade BTC short term. Way too stressful to worry about market action 24/7.
