Hello everybody. I'm asking on the behalf of a friend who uses the Electrum 1.7.1 bitcoin client.

He's wondering because his funds disappeared and now show up under "pruned transaction outputs" as negative value with the date showing "unknown".
Its just 0.2 btc or something, still things like that shouldn't happen, right? Maybe someone can shed some light on this? Thanks.

EDIT: now it seems they're completely gone. whats happening here?

yup, seems like he's not the only one affected with the upgrade problem... already happened to several people here at forum, don't worry... from what I concluded, new versions have a problem with rescanning transactions in wallets...

there are three choices:

1) first he could try to start a new version of wallet with -rescan prefix, not sure exactly how it goes with electrum, but bitcoin-qt does have that option
2) if he has mac he could pull the whole backup of previous working version including wallet.dat, all blockchain files, and previous wallet version using time machine (that's how I recovered my funds). For the pc user it could go pretty much the same if he did backup.
3) someone from forum could guide you through the recovery of your correct balance with python scripts but I think it's not worth it currently with his amount in mind... From what I have experienced, every theoretical loss of btc that happen during update could be recovered...

if the history is pruned, you may want to switch to a 'full' server (with the letter F in the servers list).
this will show you the complete history.

if you want me to have a look, PM me the master public key.
also, are there imported keys in the wallet?

Well, as far as I understand it, this was a misunderstanding from my friends side. So I'll lock this thread.

thanks thomas for your immediate support.
