Didn't happen that was just a threat from the Chinese miner who can't take after ETC was supported by Poloniex.
As if he really can bring down a coin, he could have just do send the attack without announcing but then that disappoint him in the end. He didn't become a celeb after that.

It was just a threat from a Chinese miner. He has to realize that it is much profitable to mine ETC than attack it. If he is supporting the Ethereum fork it will not be profitable to mine it in the future because I speculate that the price will fall.

He said that he was going to attack so he would scare other miners away so.he could mine all the coinz

Plausible.. but i lean a bit towards fanboyism.
Ethereum "supporters" have been rabid foaming at the mouth over this crap for ages.
Well at least since the early-2016 pump when they got sucked into this ICO scam for profit.

Bags + Posturing.

Don't forget no one gave two shits about this fraud coin in 2014.. except Coindesk of course LOL

I do find it pretty funny how negative the forked coin guys are towards the original chain. They all keep saying how Bitcoin users are toxic, but take a look at them now...even worse than the wack jobs on /r/btc.

It didn't survive the 51% attack.  The result of the 51% attack was ETH and that attacked chain still exists.

ETC hasn't survived any 51% attack yet because the final preparations have only just been completed but I'd sell those ETC criminal coin bags asap. See my other thread.

Attacking the ETC chain will be expensive for miners, they will lose income during the attack time and afterwards be left with bags full of worthless coin. There is nothing to be gained for miners, their best strategy is just to jump on the most profitable coin. Which they are doing.

ETC came damaged out of the massive 51% attack that the ethereum foundation organized (namely the hard fork) and brought to an end, but is recovering.

Now it would be difficult to attack ETC with the increasing hash rate. Maybe people thought that ETC was worthless at the beginning and can't find any reason to waste effort in attacking it. However, I think ETH foundation will be planning to do something to take down ETC.

but isn't it going to be more expensive for the attackers to perform the attack on the other miners who are mining ETC? and how much can they keep the attacks up and how successful are they going to be?

although i hate them both but it seems like ETC doesn't stop going up lol

the attack never happened

Of course it happened.  It was the hard fork that the foundation applied and the creation of the new ETH.  That WAS a 51% attack on ETC (then called ETH).

Quote
Ethereum Classic attack pool, an initiative developed to launch a 51% attack on the ETC network, experienced a series of DDoS attacks earlier today, on August 1.

The pool, called 51pool.org, was designed by an unidentified entity to essentially take control over the ETC network by obtaining majority of its computing power.

Such an attack is typically initiated by miners or a group of supporters of an opposing project to execute a majority hashrate attack, which grants the attacker ability to change transaction history and prevent transactions from being confirmed.

The ETC attack pool was most likely hit with a series of DDoS attacks by the supporters of Ethereum Classic, as a warning against their unethical behaviour and practices.
