These past few days I've seen some stuff in /r/ethereum. Most people agreed to the fork for 'noble' reasons but now it is becoming apparent it was only to get their investment back and I will tell you why. Since they have proposed a 51% attack on ETC, filing trademark claims and other forms of hacking with the motivation that "code allows it" or whatever. Today one of the top posts is that ETH foundation should dump all their ETC.

So you know these people have become just as criminal as the hacker which is really surprising considering they all used to be pretty "above and smarter than everyone else" that they would never resort to these tactics. Funny how that works.. first HF to save their ETH investment but disguised as noble then try to use all these things ETH would HF out of on ETC to try to ruin a lot of people's ETC investment.

Doesn't this seem like the biggest hypocritical turn of events in the history of crypto?

The entire industry is a joke right now.

I see no mainstream adoption for crypto. I see the banks creating their own blockchains and blowing this feral industry out of the water. They'll show us in here what the word co-operation means.

Did you expect Bitcoin & co to replace monetary systems in just a few years?

Banks might create their own blockchains for their own purposes like anybody else but we've made progress in Bitcoin as well as in smart contracts i.e ETH and now ETC. Banks might do private chains or they might fork Bitcoin who knows. Do we really need banks though? Isn't a decentralized currency supposed to be for the little man anyway? Now that we've found a way past banks and central banks, you are pissed about the technology not being ready to appease them?

Azael is right.  Remember the newspaper reference in the bitcoin genesis block?  I think Bitcoin / Ethereum Classic will work together to give us what the banks could not.  Government and the Banks should have no control over "the supply of money".

My point is that we seem to be working against each other, not as a team. We seem to be constantly at war. This does not inspire mainstream trust and adoption. Maybe in a few years things will settle down and we'll start to move forward but at the moment we seem to be a snake eating it's own tail. Maybe creation will come from destruction, but I don't see it right now.

The divisions are not just here my friend.  They are in the US with "colour", “gender” also with Trump or Clinton.  They are in Europe with immigration, they are in UK with Brexit,  Palestine,  Kurdistan, Ukraine,....

In addition to previous post:  I have no issue with the Banks & Government taking deposits in crypto currency & issuing loans provided they are based on a pre agreed low “fractional lending limit” but, they cannot be trusted in "the supply of money".

The hacker was never a criminal. He took advantage of the smart contract in a legal way, and the only law is the code of the smart contract, so he didn't break the law, which means he was not a criminal.

Now people is realizing ETH is a bailout coin and ETC will rise to 10+ dollars.

What are criminals in some peoples eyes are heroes in others.

Maybe, where we are going wrong is by hanging labels on people...   "you're a this", "you're a that" when it's more fluid than that.  Thing change over time, people get more knowledge, experience and wisdom.

People are not just “Mad”, “Bad”,”Glad” or “Sad”.  Ive been a bad person but im not a bad person...   get the drift.

Banks are criminals if they sell scams like what happened in 2008. Governments are criminals when they know this and do nothing about it.

But they still are.  Governments bailed the banks remember?  Nothing changed.  They fed the ponzi and the ponzi still needs feeding. Nothing changed since 2008-9 crash.  No one went to prison.  No one from the banks or from the gov.

Sure, that's what the crypto community says, but the fact is that the real laws just haven't caught up with crypto yet.  Coders don't make the laws, never have,  never will.

agreed with op; this is getting too messed up on all sides! everyone involved pretending they're above it is a hypocrite!
eth community is being as scornful as etc community's been; its just counter productive, ugly & bad for the whole of cryptos!
as a rule of thumb tho, good things come outta hardship so i'm optimistic! Cool

ps the bucket loads of popcorn consumed over this feud tho!  Lips sealed

The fact is the mods on /r/ethereum deleted the thread on reddit calling for the 51 percent attack. Although the censorship upset some folks most people seemed to agree that it was a horrible idea.

Unfortunately there are individuals on both sides of the debate making statements that many from their own side don't agree with. It's also unfortunate how some individuals making broad statements against either community feel it somehow gives weight to their point of view.

Since it was a very small group promoting this attack it hardly amounts to the biggest hypocritical turn of events in the history of crypto.

Before they removed it it was a top thread on /r/ethereum with a lot of upvotes and the comments were of mob mentality against ETC. Agreed it's hard to measure opinions of communities via forums as they can easily be gamed but that should at least be a indication the idea gained some support. And well if you read the comments you'd know it was mostly supportive of the idea. So I don't agree "that most people seemed to agree it was a horrible idea" because it was only a moderator removing the thread that gave a clear signal.
