how many gambling sites have been hacked?

I like to delve into bitcoin history a lot. as we all know there've been a ton of crypto exchanges that have been hacked, but i'm really struggling to think of any gambling sites that have been hacked. maybe I haven't been paying enough attention.

does anyone know how many there've been? they seem like obvious targets to me with masses of coins flowing through them.

what are they doing differently compared to exchanges? i'll guess plenty of exchanges are inside jobs. does this mean gambling site operators are incentivized to be more honest in general too?

They have been hack jobs performed on numerous bitcoin casinos but they would rather not disclose this to public as it is bad for business but they get out to the media from the ones that have been comprised.
Not necessarily bitcoins have been stolen but users emails and passwords for their accounts.
The last big one that I can remember was Cloudbet that happened late last year.
I think it was just customer email accounts and players passwords but I could be wrong.

Don't know about the history of gaming sites that have been hacked, but just as I do with exchanges, I never keep more funds than I need on a gambling site, just in case the site does get hacked or decides to abscond with player funds.

I don't know how many gambling sites have been hacked. As far as I know there was news last year about that but what I remember is just there is a strange text window that pop up on gambling sites with affiliate tag. Sometimes that pop up give codes for third-party gambling sites that would catch the attention of a gambler to try. Then maybe that's the start of users being hacked (not sure though but it might be).

It seems like gambling sites have actually put more effort into security in comparison to exchanges.  The ratio of gambling sites being hacked or going down has been FAR less than exchanges.

I don't know about that but I know many exchange sites are hacked than gambling sites, it's a fact that is easy to understand because many gambling sites be a scam if they are not serious about doing business.

Actually gambling sites have rigging problems due to some bugs which causes exploitation. As far as I know it happens very rare to see some gambling sites being hacked like exchanges are being these days. It seems that exchanges are more vulnerable because of traffic and large number of available funds which attracts attention of hackers.

Do you have any sources of this happening this year at all?

I used to warn people of sites doing that but not seen any site doing that since DaDice and dicebitco.in and dice.ninja before that being the 2 largest sites that closed and ran away.

I think it happens less now since players would rather stick to the longest running and most trusted sites like Betking.io

Gambling sites like to keep most of their money in offline wallets, they need only fraction of their wallet in hot wallets.

On the other hand, exchanges for some reasons don't use them.

Very often, the network gets the information about that hack into a server and people lose data or money. This is not good.

If no one will disclose then this is bad for the customers like us. This should be known to everyone so that we could avoid those sites that have been hacked. Security is a big must in the cryptosphere. Any lax security in any site should be patched and fixed.

there wasn't a ton of exchanges hacked, there was only 2-4 exchanges which were hacked but the amounts were big.
you don't hear about the casino hacks in big news like bitfinex hack because the casino bankroll is never as big as exchange (120KBTC). but it happens all the time.
the smaller sites get hacked all the time even small exploits in their code that leads to someone winning a lot by using that.
even primedice has been the target, i don't remember the exact amount but i think someone used a bug to steel hundreds of bitcoin from them.

Yes, PrimeDice has been exploited before, but it wasn't really a "hack", more of a clever exploitation. It was done by a user called "hufflepuff" and is probably the biggest Bitcoin heist ever made on a gambling site.

I think there are multiple reasons you haven't heard much about gambling sites being hacked compared to exchanges:

1. The total amount of coins on there is generally much lower than in exchanges. If hacks occur, the maximum the hacker could run with is lower, making it less of a target and less newsworthy.

2. Because of the lower volume, there are also less requests for withdrawels. This allows easer manual checks and gives higher security for withdrawels. In addition, because of the lower number of withdrawels, the hot wallets can be smaller as well, leaving yet again a smaller target for the hackers.

The only hacked casino i knew recently was rollin.io some user abused their site by winning every roll he does. The site went down for a few days after that then recovered right away.

Only rollin disclose this one they had been hacked but it's exploited by some players, primedice is prime example of this where some players made a lot of money to find the some bugs, recently a players turn dust into very big amount but stunna discovered this one.

You have to ask yourself how many of these 'hacks' are genuine & how many are the site owners scamming.

I'm not mentioning any site specifically but I'm sure you can see what I mean.

I remember PD getting exploited not hacked by hufflepaff as some people already mentioned. DaDice was also exploited when existed and magicdice as well. Rollin.io was also exploited once for ~3BTC if I remember correctly.
