Does successfully reporting a thread give you more activity?

I try to report spam threads as much as possible, but I'm wondering if it'll reflect on your activity score.

I think it should, but I don't ever see a boost from it.

Would it be possible to implement to incentivize more users to help out the moderators

No, it has zero impact on your activity level. It only increases the counter on your number of reported posts.

I think it should, but I don't ever see a boost from it.
I tend to disagree.

Would it be possible to implement to incentivize more users to help out the moderators
People shouldn't need an incentive to be helpful.

No, it does not. Activity depend only on your posts and it increases once in 14 days. You will get 14 activity no matter how much posts you posted you just nees to post at least one post per day.
I think it could be easily implemented but it is not needed, but it would lead to massive reporting threads and posts for no reason and the current system is good as it is right now.

Unfortunately, no. :-(

Because it will not.

No. I mean, what is the point? Mods voluntarily do their job, so you should, too.

Life sucks.

Thank you for the reply, I'm assuming you guys get enough reports where it wouldn't help to give more incentive to the report button?

Mods voluntarily do their job, so you should, too.
Although moderators do volunteer their time to support the website, they are paid for their work. IIRC 25% of the forum's income from ads is split among the moderators, and they're paid according to the work they do (so a mod of 15 sections would receive more than a mod of 3 sections).

That's true, they get paid to do it, plus there's added bonus and perks around for members of the staff.
I guess that's why some people desperately want to become one.

As far as getting something as reward for reporting, i think it would be a good idea, but not in form of activity points as OP wants.

There isn't really any benefit currently other than helping the forum out greatly but if you report enough with a decent accuracy you may eventually get asked to be staff if an admin feels like you're needed (but don't hold your breath as shorena has around 10k reported I believe and still isn't a mod (though probably should be)). I was thinking it would be nice to offer some sort of reward for those that report a lot but it would likely be abused and I can't think of what perks could be offered other than monetary but then that would almost certainly lead to abuse unfortunately.

Yup. Tough to think of anything other than monetary rewards.
What could be done is one mod's pay subdivided among good reports (beyond a threshold).

Generally the problematic with monetary is going to be the accuracy. If something like this would get implemented, I'd strongly advise a minimum of 95-96% accuracy and a minimum count of a few thousand post (trivial number). After this threshold has been met, only then would the user in question get any kind of reward. I guess it could also be something in the lines of: a special rank (similar to Donator & VIP, e.g. contributor) after X amount of posts and also somewhere later maybe throw in a one time user-name change. These are just arbitrary thoughts as I'd like to avoid monetary rewards for this.

As above people would likely abuse it if there was a financial reward. You could just create a bot to spam shit like NLC does and one to automatically report it.

Financial incentive would be definitely abused (look at sig spammers doing it for pennies) but something like this - why not:

a special rank (similar to Donator & VIP, e.g. contributor) after X amount of posts and also somewhere later maybe throw in a one time user-name change.

Vanity-type incentives are likely the best ones to provoke people to do something. However, I wouldn't necessarily think of a rank as that would potentially add some trust issue-type problems, of people thinking that they're more reliable than others. Would an icon work? (Though it would have to be a lot of reports, and perhaps with a minimum % accuracy)

I disagree with this. There is no zero reason for the (e.g.) contributor rank to make people think that "they're more reliable than others". Similarly, being a donator or VIP shouldn't cause that either. IMHO the best way to proceed is with something like a rank.

Would an icon work?
So you're thinking that there are people who would report thousands of posts just to receive a small icon? I don't even notice those anymore.

Small, yet many people grind faucets for a minimal amount of bitcoins. Why would someone not want to get an icon? At the very least, some people would be incentivized by it. It's kind of a pride-based thing, perhaps.

Players unfamiliar with how trust works are who I suspect may have issues (expectation that higher rank = higher trustworthiness)

We are talking about very differentiating groups of people. I highly doubt that you'd find many people reporting due to this incentive (icon). A poll may be required to get some better overview of the situation.

Should we really adjust every decision that we make because of groups of people that refuse to educate themselves? I'd say no.

I think it would make sense for "normal" users to get some kind of reward for accurately reporting large numbers of posts, especially over long amounts of time. This is not unlike the rewards that moderators receive for their accurate handling of reports.

The reward does not necessarily need to be financial (although that would be nice), as users could potentially receive a special badge (that is maybe only visible in Meta and the newbie section), the ability to receive a custom title, the ability to change their display name, the ability to access a special subforum, or the ability to get a free/discounted Donator/VIP tag (since the forum is not in need of money, but is in need of reports), among other possibilities.

If reporting statistics (number of good reports, accuracy) are publicly displayed, that could also act as an incentive.
All you need are bragging rights for some people to get motivated.

Would it be biased from me to say I would support a suggestion similar to that?

(As a frequent "reporter" I don't need incentives like those in order to report stuff I see worth reporting, however, I would not say no to those either, if they were ever to come. Further, it seems the sole reporting to help concept only works for a few people currently [at least compared to the users that actively read and post], so I understand that generally, there would be a more appealing incentive needed for a majority of users to pick up on actively reporting.)
