They can't move them or sell them. Other exchanges would freeze the dirty coins. They'll likely just sit there unused.

Exactly! Just like all those other dirty coins.

If they don't sell them on exchange or can't then they will trader with individuals for physical stuff or digital and/or maybe they can invest in others coins like on the earlier stages (ICO), I mean they can spend them as there are many ways to do that.

Probably, they can not sell them on (major) exchanges but there is still the option to bring small parts of the stolen coins into a bit mixer and sell them on the Darknet or exchange them against other coins and vanish the traces to the theft account.

I think bitfinex will know that to which address(wallet) there bitcoins gone, they should have to publish that address and have to inform all other exchange so that no one will try to get bitcoins from that address, with that people will then consider the hacked bitcoins as dying bitcoins and will not try to hack again.

how does that work? if i am sending bitcoin to an exchange or somewhere else there is not possibility to just don't accept the transaction. at least not to my knowledge. only the mines could refuse a transaction and i imagine that far more difficult to agree on.

I don't believe the stolen btcs have hit the market yet. The drop is probably due to the news and the fear of some whales expecting a big dump. Regarding the hacker, is it possible that he can make a deal with some mixers in order to get his btcs nice and clean?

I don't think the coins have moved since they initially left Bitfinex's control. I haven't actually researched the addresses in question, but that has been what Zane has been saying for the last couple days. The hacker would be a fool to move those coins to an exchange. Best bet is to at the very least mix them before using them. In any case, he would be wise to do nothing for a while.

i think not yet to sold in market exchange but who know that bitcoin have been sold in Darknet? in Darknet, maybe they only sell in half of all bitcoins. for other options is they hold all bitcoin first, then after the situation is good, they sold it slowly. just my 2 cents and my opinion.

I'd be very curious to know how many people managed to successfully sell large amounts of stolen coins in the past. There are so bloody many of them that they can't all be sitting there waiting for a rainy day.
I know the Sheep Marketplace guy ended up with money to throw around as the stupid bitch started buying houses all over the joint.

They cant trade it on exchange site but they can sell it individually. Some are using black market to sell their dirty bitcoin. They can spend it themselves. There are still ways to spend or sell their stolen bitcoins.

may be bitfinex can track their ip and wallet info and inform other exchanges block it . hackers cant spend their money so easily ,i believe it is large amount . or all the sites who aware about bitfinex incident can be cautious when they receiving large amount of bitcoins to their sites.

No. They haven't sold them yet. Why would they unless they are wanting to get caught. It is hot time now for them to look for large volume of coins being transferred out of an address. They are watching closely now for these tx to happen.

look I don't know about this particular hack, and I'm just reading about it now as I get reacquainted with alt coins, however I still have common sense. Every time I hear about a big hack people watch intensely at the block chain and wait to see a huge transaction, like we all don't know the truth which is anyone smart enough to steal these coins is also smart enough to separate them and re sell them in small increments. its probably a very long process that begins the minute your coins are stolen.

it is not easy selling these stolen coins but i think the hacker has been trying to launder 1000BTC of it by disguising it as a giveaway and claim the 1000BTC with his alt account and then claim he has gained these coins fairly from a giveaway! a stupid idea i should add.
p.s. do we know any of the addresses involved in the 120KBTC theft?

In my opinion bitcoin still not sold, because if bitcoin has sold price of bitcoin will going down as deep. And price of bitcoin today is not too going down, it is just fluctuating of price and it is normal.

Well once you have so many bitcoins you have so many options. You can distribute them to you own 100 wallets and no one will be able to track who hacked the bitfinex or who is using the stolen bitcoins.

i think No, because the amount that had been stolen by the theft from bitfinex is not small . its amount will definetly change the price of the bitcoins . if the btc had been sold then there will be sharply fall in the bitcoin amount will take place but there is nothing like that instead of small change in rate due to change in the value of doller .
