This is my first mining rig so please let me know what am I missing here!
All new parts, Asrock H97 Anniversary mobo and RX 480 ref cards.
I've been mining ETH with the first card for about 5 days, no problems, all nice and quiet, stable.

Claymore + gpuz pic:

I got the second card yesterday but can't seem to get it to work.. both cards work fine in the x16 slot but they won't work at all with the USB molex powered risers either in 1x or 16x.
I did a lot of research and tried everything to no avail..

- changed BIOS settings to 1 gen pcie + updated bios to latest version
- clean installed win 10 64 pro, then hooked up both cards, then installed crimson 16.7.3
- put one card in the x16 slot and moved the other one around the other 5 1x slots and also swapped around usb cables and raiser parts.

Second card on the raiser never ever shows up in device manager.
Maybe both of my brand new raisers are bad? I got 2 more coming.. I've heard they aren't too reliable..
Should I just try unpowered 1x to 16x ribbon cables? It should work if I optimize card, undervolt, no? If you check the pic above you'll see in gpuz I'm getting 50-60w, that's about 100-110 at the wall. The whole rig pulls around 180 mining at 24mh with one card, idle around 70.

Are they powering up at least? What psu are You using? Did You turn off integrated gpu ? If You try unpowered risers then power up MB with molex

Nice from far but far from nice

Yes, they do power up.
750W Corsair 80 Plus bronze psu.
I don't recall seeing option to turn off onboard gpu, but I'll double check.
Mobo molex is plugged in even now, I've read it can't hurt.

Thanks for the tips!

Forgot to mention, but in the BIOS I set primary graphics to PCI-E instead of onboard.

easy to check if its powered usb riser problem or mb, just connecto 1 card through powered riser to x16 slot if it works its not riser to blame
also if its corsair then it has one 12v rail so its good
and just to be sure in device manager You have only 1 gpu present? rx480, no integrated

Nice from far but far from nice

Hey Rob,

I just finished building my 1st rig also 5 RX 480 with H97 anniversary. I had few issues since i was a newbie.

#1 i didn't connect the Sata cable from my riser to the PSU
#2 i didn't plug the molex from PSU to motherboard to gove power to the PCI-E

Check if both are connected, if nah it might be the riser. FYI, i din't touch the BIOS and got all 5 GPU working.

It doesn't work so I guess both of my risers are bad..
Yes, only one RX 480 in device manager when card in the 16x slot.
When it doesn't detect the card on the riser than only the integrated one shows in device manager.

WOW.. that's crazy man.. if I don't connect the SATA the card won't even power up, fan doesn't spin at all!
Unplugging molex didn't help either.. do I have a bad motherboard??

HOLY CRAP!!
Someone sent me a link where this guy cut out the side of a 1x to 1x ribbon extender female connector to fit the card in, I had a few of those laying around, tried it and it worked! The second RX480 showed right up in the device manager!

Now I just need to restore my baseline Macrium image and reinstall crimson 16.7.3 and I'll be mining @48mh!! Smiley

I'm a bit worried about power though.. I only have one 6 pin connector on these ref cards and a 6 pin pci-e is rated at 75W so I have to super optimize it but still where is the extra 30-40 needed watts are going to come from?

Have virtual ram set to 16gb.
What am I missing?

Can't seem to get to crossfire settings.. when I click on Radeon Additional Settings under Preferences nothing happens.
I didn't use -di.
