I have been thinking for a while that if I where the CEO of Google I will imitate the concept of bitcoin but taking advantage of the huge popularity of Google.

What are your thoughts on that?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66844.0

Once upon a time, Google considered the possibility of creating its own currency called Google Bucks, much to the likes of the Bitcoin cash system. The statement came after Eric Schmidt, Google’s chairman, announced his keynote speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday.

The concept originally consisted of a “peer-to-peer” money system by which users can seamlessly transfer cash to each other via a hypothetical application. However, the project was eventually nixed because of the various laws about currency in different parts of the world which would deem the system illegal. The concept would also make it easier for potential money laundering scandals.

“Ultimately we decided we didn’t want to get into that because of these issues,” Schmidt said.

If there is a corporation behind it, they might as well release such a currency in a centralized way, with a central transaction database, and do without all that mining overhead.

What Facebook and Google (Plus) today might try though is to popularize a Ripple-like community credit system.

Think about all the stupid things Google announces that are met with disinterest.  Remember Google Wave?  I liked that one.

Didn't that evolve into Google+?  I got into the beta of Wave; I can't remember for the life of me what it was supposed to do.

I don't think there's any Google spin-off that I'm particularly interested in, besides maps and perhaps gmail.  I really see no reason to run apps in a web browser.

I just got a Chromebook and, while it's a nice piece of hardware, the OS is kind of odious.  You have to log into a Google account to actually use it.  It doesn't come with any software.  I searched their "app store" for a notepad, and there were a dozen different options that I had never heard of.  Why?  Why is 'parted' crippled so that it won't re-size partitions?

Why did Google feel it necessary to even create their own browser, anyways?  It's like Safari, which is a total piece of crap with no justification for existing other than to pad some manager's development budget.  These companies, Google, Apple, Amazon, are creating the 21st century equivalent of company stores, and every one of them has been propped up by moronic investors fleeing central bank money-printing.

I see a huge contraction of the "gen-x'er dot com corporate fiefdom" space looming on the horizon.

Google has all of our information, why would anyone want them to control our finances too? If it's decentralized, then google doesn't own it and there's really no point for them to make their own

That sounds good, but Google will make a super ASICs to mine most of the google coin themselves secretly..

kitco should release a crypto that's  backed by one ounce of gold per coin, and another crypto that's backed by one ounce of silver per coin... completely replace their 'pool accounts' .. naturally a proof of stake coin that does not get mined and is 100% held by them, distributed by people sending them fiat or metals to buy a stake.

Well how would a company make a Bitcoin clone? They can't as they can not own a decentralised currency. They would have to make it centralised and then it would not be like Bitcoin.

Well it'd probably just be a premine, and/or just a centralised crypto rather than a decentralised one.

I think a few companies will try create their own coins, using cryptography, but they will essentially just be either minted or centralised. Companies like Apple or Google could probably pull this off and offer benefits for using them. Maybe they'll just be offered like reward points at first but people will be free to trade or sell them.
