If you want to spend a btc most of the time you need to turn it into cash.  You need an exchange .

And btc won't fork to stop a big theft.

So even if you keep a hundred coins on your safe client every exchange to cash involves a risk.

And that is completely to fault of btc. Since as shown by eth and etc a large theft can be stopped.

The only people that's a flaw for is people who keep bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency on an exchange. It's been said a million times but let's say it again just for the hell of it:

All exchanges will get hacked. There's no telling when. Also don't use online wallets for the same reasons. It may seem like common sense to most of us but for some reason people (obviously mostly newbies) keep money on these shady sites. I don't care how legitimate a site is. Will you insure up to $100,000 in bitcoins if your funds get stolen? No? Then you're a shady piece of shit company. Go to hell. More people need to have that mentality but who cares, if you lost money then you clearly haven't read up on bitcoin history. If you did read up and thought it wouldn't happen to you, you're even more naive.

yeah im worried about my money so i just dont put any bitcoins on an exchange right now in order for it not to be stolen like it was with bitfinex, thankfully i didnt have bitcoins there

It's not pure a hacking in my minds. Well, the recovering of the bitfinex is really fast and what about that? Their member is yet apart from the depressed by bitfinex give for them. and they wanna come back again with another nightmare.

yeah your right. its a disaster for all traders out there. i just hope that the other trading sites would be much more secure than before after this incident happenned.. its not only for them but for all the traders who are earning from them.

This attempt trying to be fair with all their users makes they loose several costumers along the changes, before bitfinex there were other hacker attempt(with suceess) and after that all should know they need to invest deeply into security, isnt any new issue.

yeah you're right if the site will keep on running im not saying that they will going to scam more people if they continue nor not continue some people are going to chase them for sure because lots of investors lose or waiting for the refund i think bitfinex now is bankrupt because they asking for help of others who invest or who have lots of coins in their accounts

After checking all the things with Bitfinex, I am sure the hack is done by insiders. And they not satisfy with that theft and want 36% of all members balance.

The investigation need to be start against Bitfinex.

I think this will be a big hit to trading volumes/liquidity. This is the second time the largest USD exchange has gone down to a hack. The risk/reward for many traders was worth it, but I imagine this will weigh heavily on that risk/reward analysis. For many, it won't be worth it anymore. Also, no good options left for US margin traders. So yeah, I think this will be bad for BTC/crypto trading generally.

every company so-posed to have a backup of funds saved in the bank so to refund to customers if anything goes wrong (ESPECIALLY A FINANCIAL COMPANY)

yes it's true most people will very worried to save their bitcoin into bitfinex because this exchange aren't safe any longer and now for their reputation they must built again their trust from users and prove that These incident will not repeat again however i was wondering that what about users funds are they talking about refunds or not

Well they are trying to cover their losses with all the other coins and some fiat holders as well, if you divide the loss into many diversified investments yes your loss becomes less but that means even tough they will be able to cover some of the coins back it will still hurt the innocent altcoin and fiat holders , I do agree that they found a way at least and thats a good thing but not sure if the way they found is the correct way.

I can't decide to buy the tokens they created or not.  They are selling at a good discount, but who knows if they will pay off at all.  The terms I have read says they are in no way required to make any payments on those, so why would they?

Funny   , if there are the most secure bitcoin exchange,how about others?  If they got hacked the other exchanger too, and sounds crazy, but it's good idea to give back the lost even its not full , but it will help from the people who  lost there money.

It only assigns losses that were actually suffered, rather than replacing some actual losses with the fairer losses we wish had happened.
There’s a fancy alternative plan where Bitfinex says, one customer held BTC (now gone) and other customer held USD (still there), so we’re going to give 36% of customer's USD to the one held btc. So the one used to own BTC, now owns USD. This requires no external trades, which is nice. Unfortunately it’s otherwise pretty crazy.

They are registered in Hong Kong, IIRC. Hong Kong's rules aren't as easy as America's so they could get off easily.
