Avalon just sent out a newsletter...  Something is happening with Batch #3 tomorrow morning at 8:30 EST.

They've also updated the pricing for Batch #3 on their website:  75 Bitcoins.

Just hit their website and it says "from ฿88.00"

I was considering getting into mining, but at that price... dang. Not as interested right now. But, according to this, I could break even in about 19 days (assuming I had one today). Who knows what the difficulty will be by the time they ship though.

It is a money making machine.

Ever wonder what a money printing press would cost on the black market?

On to batch three, we at Avalon did not even wish to sell another batch. If you recall, our original plan was to produce only one batch, sell chips to thwart the centralization of mining, but due to the lackluster performance of our competitors we are here today as the exact centralization we tried to decouple.

The pricing seems to have increased dramatically compared to the 1st and 2nd batches. 1200, 1500, and currently ~5300+. It seems to be a very large jump, but if you have had the coin, then you can justify the cost.

100BTC buys you 1 Avalon for a total of 68GH/s.
100BTC buys you 5 BFL for a total of 300GH/s.

Which one will earn more BTC by this time next year?

Math fail.

101BTC buys you 1 Avalon(with ATX) for a total of 85GH/s.
100BTC buys you 5 BFL pre-orders for a total of 0GH/s.

Easy decision. Buy vaporware from scammers or buy a real shipping product from the pros. If BFL or BTCFPGA had been able to pull their thumbs out of their posteriors for even a couple months and ship something rather than the constant lies then Avalon would not have had the pricing power they do. The question is silly anyway because an order with BFL would not be delivered for many months even if they were shipping now, which they are not. By that time an order placed with Avalon could conceivably have been delivered and have paid for itself already.

Ergh. Don't forget that if the cost of entry is too high then Bitcoin is going to lose value. It's not healthy or secure for mining power to be in few hands.

The pricing seems to have increased dramatically compared to the 1st and 2nd batches. 1200, 1500, and currently ~5300+. It seems to be a very large jump, but if you have had the coin, then you can justify the cost.

You've got to think of it in BTC, not USD.  Batch 1 was like ~125BTC, Batch 2 was ~77 BTC, Batch 3 ~ 75BTC.  They're getting cheaper.

You're paying BTC to mine BTC to use in a BTC economy.  Don't value the BTC as USD and it's not a problem.

Where your argument fails is that anyone can buy a vastly superior spankin' new GPU that whoops a 5830 for 4BTC. See?

Not so much with the ASIC mining unit competition.

How does competition or lack thereof make my argument fail?

The original poster stated that something was getting cheaper because it cost less bitcoins, ignoring their intrinsic value.

I will buy some new 7950's and sell them to you for 3.9BTC, as the price people are willing to pay for BTC is $85 at the moment.

They can be found retail at $275.

If you don't already have the BTC you kinda have to value it in fiat.
