Erodgon in Russia. Turkey being pushed to Russia

Turkey and Russia all over the history had a cold relation. While Turkey is a close ally to US. (And they are not a large backstabber like Saudi and Qatar)

Turkey hates Shia Syrian Assad's party as well as Iran which are close ally of Russia.

Yet, Turkey is trying to expand it's relation with Russia.

Though Erdogan has objections, he still seems to hold majority of Turkish votes.

Is it just the imaginary danger Erdogan feels from the US or is US really pushing Turkey to Russia?

Erdogan has no long-term plans for co-operating with Russia. His new found love for Putin is just another blackmailing tactic to force the Americans to extradite Fethullah Gülen, who resides in the United States. That said, he is unlikely to push too hard. Erdogan knows very well that without the NATO support, he is a big zero in the region.

At the meeting, Putin and Erdogan have noticed all the warming of relations. It can not be casual. After the downed plane Putin promised to retaliate. Perhaps all that is between them some kind of agreement. And a failed military coup in Turkey, too, is not casual, confident. All these events are somehow connected. But a lot of us just do not know.
