They are safe against small crises. Eg. insured Icesave customers did get bailed out by the UK gov.

yeah, but they might just as well not have been bailed out.
it was all kinda arbitrary.

so much for the meaning of "guarantuees".

Not a chance in Cyprus.

It's gonna get tough in the rest of the EU, but maybe.  The bribes ("Withdrawal Assistance Fees") will probably be pretty stiff.

so if wealthy uninsured depositors can't hide their money in banks anymore worldwide, by extension, where do they hide it?

btw, the US repealed their unlimited deposit coverage late last year.

Ha ha ha !!!

so far we heard about "bail-out" now we have "bail-in".

several next variants are:
bail-onto,
bail-not-in,
bail-if-possbile,
bail if relevant,
bail-from-neighbour,
bail-if-you-can

any more variants?

It's too late to agree with him - he's changed his mind:

"Cyprus bailout: Dijsselbloem's U-turn creates chaos in the markets

The island has been left in a near-impossible situation by the terms of its rescue, and is likely to require another bailout"
