I understand btccharts has a telnet server sending raw realtime closing data.

It uses http://www.ounce.me  which uses several exchanges (mtgox is just one of them),  averages them out, and gives a very accurate price.  The price reflected on those feeds are what someone literally just paid for a bitcoin.

You'll see that it lists in both US dollars and Euros.

It then calculates everything from Pizza Index, Market Cap and more,  then gives you accurate spot prices for Silver, Gold, Platinum and Palladium  for reference.

the API I use is here (RSS format):

I then utilized that information to create the twitter feed.

Feel free to check it against MtGox or anyone else for that matter,  you'll see it's extremely close.  If you see the numbers not match up 100%,  it's because someone is getting a better (or worse) price at CampBX or another exchange that exact moment.

Ideally, average price from multiple exchanges should be weighted by trade volume.

yeah any CPU can calculate that.

but you want unmeddled with raw data real time, and do a lil statistics yourself

like bitcoin.de has some absurd records of data that screws up - intentionally one might guess - all those statistic calculating routines.

like s.o. sold 0.001 btc at 1000€ for 1€ to himself on Dec. 31, 2012 - totally screwing over those charts for good.

I have checks and balances in there for odd results,  if something is way out of norm it drops that from the formula.

It's not perfect,  nothing is.. but I believe it's the closest you can get to the actual true spot price of a bitcoin.
