I was hunting for a site with the lowest transaction fees and good security measures when I came across an exchange site in China - Bter.

They charge 0.2% on buy/sell transactions - that seems too good to be true.

So I want to ask for your opinion: Is Bter good? If not, which altcoin exchange site do you think offers the lowest fees with good security.

2 years ago I traded there. Worked fine.
But there was a NXT hack there too. (reply from memory, don't remember when)

BTER is dead since the 50 million NXT hack. They lost some thousand BTC also in another hack.

I would only trade altcoins on poloniex and bittrex now

since august 4th i've moved all my trading activities (which is not much) to Bter.
haven't had any significant issues with them ever since!
all deposits, withdrawals, & trades have gone through properly; no probs!
the only thing is, i don't like the charts on the trading page; they're too simplistic & uncostumizeable!!

do note though, i'm not a vigorous trader by any means!
i mostly receive altcoin mining pool deposites in my wallets there, exchange for btc & whitdrawl.
they do have a BTC0.0106 withdraw ceiling which is fine by me!

I was using their site to do some small trades back in the days before they were hacked like bitfinex and cryptsy.
but instead bter lost something around 7170BTC (approximately) and never recovered from it even after starting to run their business again.

i did not even know the bter.com exchange service is still alive. that is so strange to me.

i checked their website for trade prices and i was surprised to see bitcoin price is still $324 there and the buy orders are as big as $1.02 lol

and according to their home page seeing the list the only market that is active there is btc/cny pair which can very well be fake volume they create themselves to stay alive!! because nobody to my knowledge leaves okcoin to come to bter and trade cny pair!

I would stay away from them.. Too many reports of people having problems withdrawing several altcoins.

If the trading pair is active on another exchange, I would not take the risk and just trade on the reputable exchanges. Even if the trades are 0.1% more expensive.. Losing 100% is always more expensive.

Bittrex and poloniex are best for altcoin trading right now and also seem preety stable and secure, i am trading in both platform for years now. Never tried Bter, and better not to try them as they are almost dead exchange with lots of previous security flaw.

After a big hack bter decided it couldn't afford to pay back all the bitcoins that were stolen so took a percentage of all its customers bitcoin balances to cover the hack. It gave tokens in return for the bitcoins it took and promised to pay back its customers from its profits. It never kept its promise and it still owes most of the money it promised to pay back.

Poloniex was hacked and covered the stolen bitcoins with customers bitcoin balances, but did pay everything back. Actions speak louder than words, poloniex is more trustworthy than bter.

Not to be trusted at all.  They essentially stole my coins and would not return them until a good 8 months letter.  I had to submit countless customer reports, threatened to take my case to R/ Bitcoin, Twitter and BTT and - when I was in the middle of getting a write up from a Chinese speaker - they finally gave my coins back.

Thanks guys Smiley Seems a lot of these exchanges are getting hacked, one needs to be careful.

It's not that..

It's that they have a track record of shady activity and poor communication.

I got ripped off from them before and have told my story lots.
Use the search button.. google.

And yet i still kept using them for arb'ing / trading.. and ran into more problems.
I ended up having to email them and ask where my coins went 4 times in a week or two.
I kept poking them for some explanation and they refused to say a word.
All they would say is "Check your balance" and my coins would be there.
After 4 sets of emails doing that in a short period
AND.. more before that spread out.. i had enough !
Got out and never went back.

Way back i was laughing at BTER on Cryptsy's IRC saying i had been burned arb'ing for a few BTC at least
while arb'ing coins and other people AGAIN chimed in they had the same rip-off
on the same exact coins at the same exact time.

All of us had sent many BTC worth of coins that VANISHED forever !

They are typical.. they are ALL like that !

They are all scammy corrupt manipulators fucking with shit to line their pockets.
If you think some exchange is "different" you are an idiot.. a gullible naive little idiot.
I've seen pretty much all of them pull scammy stunts & shenanigans
and no it makes no difference if they paid the money back.

Part of the reason i said ICO's are scammy .. ALL OF THEM
are because of the immense monumental VALUE in having that many coins
in your possesion even for a short period of time.

AND YOU ALL NEVER CLUE IN AND GET IT !

Crypto is a scammy joke and a dozen exchanges have cried "I wuz hacked"
Many got to fuck over customers more than once because your greedy idiot fanboys
hell bent on cheerleading what ever garbage bullshit you are using.

Imagine having a bank or running an ICO and having every coin in the entire currency
for 3 days..
Then imagine if it was FIAT.
Then imagine you had a good scam to get in on for profit.. Like AUR (or FIAT stick market version)
BAM you just made Millions or Billions or Katrilions.

THEN.. just pay back the money you said was hacked and all is forgiven.
AKA: your very own personal bank account.. AKA: a crypto exchange.
*Centralized* exchanges
Where guys can Gox or Cryptsy your ass as many times as they want and still keep doing it.
Because your idiot cheerleaders !

You all don't learn.. you're all greedy and stupid.
So your broke already and don't know it.
You insist on make "scammy" work.
It can't.

Good luck with that though..

And i would say Google it but would it matter ?
You guys are not looking for honesty.
You are all looking for profit.. nothing more.

I warn users and get called Troll / FUD'er
So why should i bother ?
You're idiots.

FUD first & ask questions later™

I have used them they seem fine to me. However I recommend alcurex as it's new and needs support and I reccomend novaexchwnge since you are awarded novapoints for exchanging and using their exchange. Low fee 0.2% and low withdraw fee only 0.0001btc
Alcurex withdraw is high I'm not sure why but its 0.001 btc
