There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

You have to find a coin which can still be mined by CPU,
so I think it would have to be some kind of alt-coin.
But I believe even Etherium has to be mined on GPU at this point.
Check the alt-coin section and see if there is anything worth mining.

maybe you can mine some new alt coins just launched, due a low difficulty and high initiative of users during first days, probably you get a good profit.

Zcash will be a CPU mining only coin from what I read in their forum. Zcash will be big so better do all the research and start mining their testnet so that you will know the ins and outs of mining that coin for real when it is officially released.
