[2016-08-16]UN seeks volunteers in bitcoin research and training in Africa

United Nations online volunteering has announced that it is seeking two volunteers or technology geeks to help in research and training two staff members on how to use bitcoins for fundraising.
According to the official announcement, the opportunity is organized by ‘Twenty-First Century African Youth Movement - Sierra Leone’ that aims in seeking new sources of revenue and looking for alternative ways of raising funds by accepting bitcoin donations and expanding its global support base.
The potential volunteers must have strong knowledge of digital currencies, research, IT and above all, must be a tech geek. The training will be in English for the duration of 12 weeks, although volunteers have the option to extend further. The opening is available immediately and the training will take place online through email, hangout, Skype, and Whatsapp. The organization has established an account with Coinbase and accepts donations in bitcoins.

A perfect example of how to waste donation money. Is Bitcoin too complex for the UN to understand? After all they were already successful in opening a Coinbase account. But staff needs 12 weeks to learn how to use it? If that is true, the UN staff has a severe problems with brainpower.

Bitcoin fundraising is barely different from ordinary fundraising. The only difference is that you state your BTC address to receive coins. Handling the funds at least as simple as online banking. Employing two people for this task is a waste of resources and raises significant questions regarding the administrative overhead of the UN.
