It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

We have a whole mining section dedicated to these types of questions, just go here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=14.0 There are many different ways to mine and lots of hardware to invest in. Do your calculations before you just dive into this, because profitability is based on lots of factors that are not under your control. For example, difficulty adjustments; Bitcoin/Alt coin price etc.. ^hmmmmm^
