open bazaar may not be failure at present , but it requires popularity , more people should be made aware of that site, as more people join and does the transaction it may become successful one , we need to wait and see how exactly that site works like adopting new things which should attract customers

I think it is far too early to call OpenBazaar a failure. It is a radical improvement from a UI/UX and decentralisation perspective to previous crypto marketplaces such as bitmit.net. Give it time.

As long as the users don't decline i don't think it's a failure.

Just give it some time to grow and improve.

sure...its need time to grow...but first comes improvement...without improvement of it then its a waste of time for it to grow...no need to come into conclusion  yet..

I made a topic similar to this one few months ago, now I once again checked the OpenBazaar stats and It looks like they are the same (If not worst)

I've been checking the stats almost daily but there is absolutely no progress : https://bazaarbay.org/stats/day

The question is : Can we consider OpenBazaar as a failure in the crypto currency world ? and why ?

I`ve never used openbazaar because i can`t install it on my pc.

I think that the whole OpenBazaar idea is good, but most of the people don`t feel secure when they

have to buy stuff there.

Why not ? as far as I know , there is moderators & escrow there so I don't think things could go wrong.

my opinion
1. it took well over a year for bitcoin to have over 300 nodes.
2. openbazaar is not advertised well, so only gets a hand full of people
3. do the stats show users that just use it for 10-20 minutes a day to buy something. or only people running 24/7 as the stats may differ depending on what the stats are based on.
4. explaining point 3 more. not everyone wants to run a node 24/7 just to buy something once a month, its why bitcoin has a couple million users but only 6000 nodes

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

I disagree on this one , they are not the same thing , as Bitcoin Core needs to download a huge file (which makes most of people don't want to download it) while OpenBazaar doesn't require anything

OpenBazaar was overhyped and in the end underdelivered. IMO it's not better than centralized alternatives and inconvenient. The lack of anonymity makes the benefits that a decentralized marketplace would offer pointless, even for advanced users.

I agree with it having more popularity. So that more developers will help enhance it.
I think the system is still raw. It needs more exposure, usage and development.

Can't call OpenBazaar a failure when they haven't enabled TOR yet. For better or worse, commerce for normal (non-contraband) items is going to be one of Bitcoin's last major uses as it goes mainstream, not one of its first.

I've had some success using bitcoin to bypass capital controls in my country and shop online. I just used a debit card service powered by bitcoin to shop in regular online stores. There's no use for a decentralized marketplace if you're just using bitcoin out of need. I'm also a fan of bitcoin but this incentive to "decentralize everything" doesn't seem appealing with anything other than the currency itself.

If it enabled that then I would be more inclined to use it.
Just like the torrent system. People were not wanting to try it because of privacy issues being a p2p network.
Now the ones who use it (the majority are tech-idiots) don't care. They just want their media! Grin

nice statistics, but I think it is too soon to say OpenBazaar is a failure or success. it takes time to grow and become as popular as something like say ebay.
and also, I haven't tried it myself, but from the explanations of running a node and keeping it that I read, it seems like a lot of work and it is definitely not newbie friendly which is the main reason for it not being as popular as you may want it to be.

It is not fast enough and a little unstable
speed is ok, i think it will recover in the near future and it will become even more popular in the future, i hope that it will be great soon

unless you're a seller what possible reason would you have to get a node up and running? people have enough hassle in their lives already.

if they get 10M bucks for marketing, it will not be a failure, even sh** product can become trendy with a lot of money. twitter had 80M bucks investment and they could bring well-known people who can gather many followers.

beside it, bazaar is similar to django project, it is made that people must pay to get normal functional django website. similar like joomla and "pay to get more than just the core". django never became popular, people are not python programmers and they will not pay 100 times to some developers to do some task. django is good for rich customers, not for ordinary people, and many "internet people/generation" are young, without salary.

I checked background of the bazaar team, so,
Brian Hoffman, Founder OpenBazaar worked at booz allen hamilton,
it is the nsa company.

spies promise to us: open source means there is no spying backdoor and "accidentally" we can help to the cops to find you out (your IP). and "we don't give backdoor secretly to the fbi, we are not like tor developers" Smiley

but hey, the cops hunt people even for avoiding taxes, not only for drugs. so, if you sell something legal and you don't pay the tax, bazaar team can't abolish your shop, but they can help to the cops to arrest you... ehhhh, spies are always good for the gov.

debit cards websites are companies registered in London by Lithuanians who demand from you your phone, ID and utility bill, that's enough for them to make offshore companies on your name without your knowledge and they can get a bank account and make financial crimes on your name, or they can simply sell IDs. don't give to anyone too much info.
why they need more than your ID when your local bank demands only ID?
don't use coinbase, they are NSA spying shit, they make database of people that use bitcoins.

We'll see other poorer countries use them before us most likely.

Why would poorer countries use something they consider expensive? By the time they convert fiat to bitcoins all their income is gone.

i think it is such a good idea and we cannot call it as a falier, it just need some extra effort, struggle and hard work with good management and advertisement, hope that the result will be totally different,
