A German man who trained in Pakistan with an offshoot of Al Qaeda and confessed in 2009 to plotting to bomb American targets in Germany was released from prison this week.

The decision to grant early release to the leader of the plot, Fritz Gelowicz, comes as the country grapples with the aftershocks of two recent attacks in Bavaria by people claiming loyalty to the Islamic State.

Mr. Gelowicz, 36, was sentenced in 2010 to 12 years in prison. Counting time served before his sentencing, he had been in prison for nearly nine years and was eligible for early release based on good behavior and because he was no longer deemed to be a danger, according to Andreas Vitek, a spokesman for the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court. Mr. Gelowicz will have to report regularly to a probation officer.

The court in Düsseldorf released Mr. Gelowicz on Monday, but the decision did not receive widespread attention until Wednesday, when his defense lawyer, Dirk Uden, wrote about it on his website.

“I’m sure he will not use any violence against anybody,” Mr. Uden said in a phone interview on Wednesday, adding that his client had cooperated with the authorities and expressed remorse. “That’s based on my conversations with him, his conversations with psychologists in prison and his contacts with the police.”

He was a member of Al Qaeda, an organization which has murdered tens of thousands of civilians. And yet he has been released from prison after serving a relatively short period. The German government and judiciary is playing with fire. They should look at France and see what happen when you release the terrorists after short sentences.

At least there was a trial..
The US could have sent a secret force to assassinate him like they did with Bin Laden.

Besides where were the trials during Guantanamo Bay or the tortures mentioned in the propaganda movie "Zero Dark thirty" ?

So the Hell's Angels biker gang has been responsible for plenty of murders too.
She we round them all up and kill them too ?

I like the line of he was released early because of his good behavior.  So, after all the terrifying thing he did he has been granted a favor of releasing him before his actual sentence of 12 years.  Maybe he did it to do again plan another terror attack.  I think there should be a ratification on the sentences on the basis of how they committed the crime.  There should be a leveling or a scale on how bad a crime was made.  Then the terrorist should have the heaviest penalty of life sentence.
