A drcemt CPU or GPU or multiple of each. Good mining software. Some space and electricity to burn. You will need good cooling and "breath space" you can even use the miners to heat your room at winter ^^

You dont need expensive mining hardware for do that, Recently was announced TITAcoin, when it be launched you can mine this with CPU only.

ASIC is ready out-of-the-box and you can mine with ASIC well-established coins like eg DASH.
CPU mining to be on par with ASIC needs a top CPU which costs almost as much as an ASIC.

You may check Gridcoin or Foldingcoin to get paid from the scientific calculation at your current PC.

To get most of the latter better follow this instruction for merged mining $FLDC & $CURE
