Has anyone thought of buying a single module and turning it into a cheap 20Gh/s ASIC by adding their own PSU, fans and controller? The software is on the web I guess. Do-able?   Undecided

Surely it would cheaper/faster for Avalon to just sell the modules than build a whole unit.

Bitcoin decentralization requires a cheaper ASIC solution.

You can't buy a single module though.

I do believe there is someone here on the forum who bought like 50 of them and plans to resell the modules.

it may not work, Avalon has a small controll board on the bottom  that 3 modules plug into. You will need that as well

I think in Avalon's FAQ they state that you can buy modules in bulk.

BTW: Allinvain, how's your machine hashing?  Grin

It's hashing quite nicely. 3 days of uptime with the latest (not NEXT) firmware so it's all good  Grin

May I ask if yours came with PSU? If yes, any problem with customs? If not, you got a 650W one for it?

Yes mine came with PSU. As far as I'm aware we were never given an option in batch 1 to order without PSU. And no there were no problems with customs. The PSU it came with is an Antec unit. I am thinking of buying a modular PSU for it later on as it will help with airflow in the case a bit.

A 80 Plus platinum PSU is a must-have upgrade for Avalon.

You think? Hmm, I dunno. I think that it won't make that much of a difference yet. It might way way into the future when this thing is pushing the borders of profitability, but by then we would either have upgraded to something more power efficient or stopped mining altogether (heaven forbid).

What would be a better "upgrade" is powering them with 220v
