I just set up a mining rig with Conf :

- Intel i3 - 6098P CPU
- Asrock - Z170 Extreme 3
- AMD Powercolor RX 480 GPU - 6 gpu
- Kingston 120 GB SSD
- Corsair RM 1000x PSU.
- windows 10 Enterprise x64
- Ram DDR4 HyperX Fury 2133 Mhz

The recent problem I encountered is when joining 6 gpu's. 3 of them are running perfectly fine and in device drivers window showing - "This device is working properly". The other 3 are showing this in the driver - "Code 12: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system". http://imgur.com/a/MhWI6

I have tried my level best to work on this error but unable to solve. when I connect 5 of them only 2 runs fine and the other 3 of them doesn't work as the same way above.

I have tried solutions given by microsoft and other aslo. but no clue still.

Kindly Help.

"When connecting 5 GPU. 3 of them shows the Error only 2 works. While connecting 6 GPU 3 of them shows the Error only 3 works. When reconnecting 4 GPU all work fine". HOW ? WHY ?

The psu is also short if you get them to run.

Also the mobo has not been shown to use  six cards people don't use that one.

is this your mobo?

Can you get to bios?  show the pcie settings.

do the risers work for the 3 smaller slots?

just set up the three cards with risers use the small slots then tell us if that works.

just set up the three cards with the big slots direct plug in then us if that works.

They moved it to alt coin.  Give me a few minutes to look some stuff up.

You can try it on Windows 8.1 to see if the Windows can recognise 5 GPU. If so, there is nothing wrong with the hard ware.

Can you also swap the cards and have the same effect?

I mine in windows 7

I have had resources issues in windows 7 with usb stick mining.  But with many stick on 1 pc over 100.

Your issue could be in the bios of that mobo.

I am not familiar with it so I am not sure how it devides the pcie slots.  You may have a bad setting on the six slots.  They may need to be all legacy or all gen 1.

So if you do 1 card it can work on any of the six slots correct?

How much ram do you have? 1 stick of 8gb? Or more?

Try asking mobo questions on anantech.com asrock.com overclockers.com tomshardware.com

I have to think you are missing a setting for the pcie slots

Some months ago I spent one weekend fighting with skylake, wanted to move 5 x nvidia from P67 to Z170.

I lost that fight, had conversations with Asus and they finally confirmed that only 2 x nvidia or 3 x amd works on that mobo. It was really hard to get them understand that I want to use more than one gpu but I don't want to sli/ crossfire them.

Sent skylake back to retailer and still happily hashing with old sandy bridge.

The z170 chipset is the problem. The z170 won't do anything over 4 cards. I'm having the same issue with the biostar
Changed settings from gen 3 all the way down to gen 1 turn off sound and so on. It doesn't split pcie lanes after 4 cards 5 cards it goes down to 3 cards only working.

As I see a super coin as the super highway and alt coins as taxis and trucks needed to move transactions. ~philipma1957

Chipset z170 is that issue. If you disable everything you don't need in bios + have some powerful cpu with lanes you mitght do it.

Great, isn't it?

I'm not familiar with that specific mobo but some use PCIe lanes for on board devices like USB3 and SATA Express. There should
be some way to configure the BIOS to be able to use all equipped PCIE slots by disabling devices and/or assigning lanes.
The mobo manual should have the details. Some mobos also share bandwith between the x1 slots which may have issues.

If you can't use all equipped PCIe slots at the same time it's worth returning the mobo for one that can.

Copypaste from Hardocp:

Improvements over Z97

Aside from DDR4 support, the most exciting improvement to Z170 Express is an increased number of PCIe lanes. Z170 now supports a total of 20 PCI-Express lanes at the PCH in conjunction with the CPU’s 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes for a platform total of 36. Last generation’s Z97 Express chipset coupled with Devil’s Canyon or Haswell CPUs only allowed for 24 lanes. All of these from the PCH were PCIe 2.0 compliant. In contrast all Z170’s PCI-Express lanes are Generation 3.0 compliant while retaining backwards compatibility with PCIe 2.0 and 1.0 specifications. Manufacturers will of course have a great deal of flexibility concerning how these are allocated. There will be a lot of additional integrated devices on Z170 motherboards so not all of those PCIe lanes will be free for use by the user via expansion cards. So keep this in mind.

z97-x with i5 4690k runs at least five nvidia gpu's with no problems.

z170 (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/) with i5 6600 doesn't even boot when you add third nvidia gpu. It might boot but doesn't see third gpu even at bios, if you are really lucky it boots and sees it but never in the OS level.

I don't know if they fixed it with later bios updates but back then it just didn't work. Trust me, I tried from friday afternoon to sunday evening because I just couldn't believe it.

In the BIOS, you may change the PCIE slot from Generation 3 to Generation 1. It works in other motherboards.
