Create a thread here with facts about the past few months with BFL.   Reserve the first 2-3 posts for updates as they come. Be fair, they did deliver FPGAs right?

Link the add to the thread to gain potential awareness.

Warning: BFL has failed to deliver for> 7 months. It Could be a scam!
And Done
How about we start adding this text in our own signatures?

BFL did it when they were holding their bogus contests. Why shouldn't we?

Warning: BFL hasn't even produced a prototype in 7 months. It Could be a scam!

I think not even having a working prototype is more indicative of how risky this is, 'failed to deliver' is true but a not as immediately appararent. IMHO

Nevermind about anti-BFL PSA's.

I have half a mind to investigate the pros/cons of a class action lawsuit against them at the moment.

Starting to get really pissed off. Have never seen a company I have given so much money to, act so unprofessionally before.

Get a refund while you still can.

And if you paid in BTC, I think you might have a case to sue for a BTC refund.  I've posted details in other threads.

be prepared for epic exchange fuck. product was/is priced in USD. You're going to get back BTC equivalent of USD exchange.

I like people putting money where their mouth is!

In traditional media the media company would run Josh's ad over yours even if you outbid him since the future income from Josh far outweighs the future income from this campaign. It'll be interesting to see if the threat of BFL advertisement boycott of bitcointalk outweighs the set rules of the ad auction. (Also interesting to see if BFL sees this as a long term threat or a minor inconvenience. They will boycott if it is a threat and ignore it if they think it is an inconvenience).

popcorn time...

What are the ad rules for the content?

Any imagery or only formatted text?

Thy cup ( 1LuyJib375mAcyQLBJtT9sMNoQzKp2jcSx )will surely runeth over.

PER THEYMOS re: the same issue.

One can post a factual, negative btcttalk advertisement as long as it links back to a single post where such facts can be discussed.

If I can get a guarantee that Theymos and the bitcointalk admins will allow negative ads towards BFL, I'll donate a full BTC in protest.

I want to stick to simple facts that dash cold water in the face of newbs.  The cult followers cannot be helped.  And I have no sympathy for fools and their money.  But I hate that many people's first experiences with Bitcoin is being ripped off.  This is my public service to Bitcoin.  It deserves more from me, but it's a start.

Seriously Man!! Youre awesome..  I went through an ordeal i wouldnt wish my experience on anyone, the stress, the anxiety, the anticipation and then the heartbreak x 2!!  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=85.0

I can only imagine going through all that and then paying up only to have nothing.. 7-8 months later!

On the page i linked to i spoke about sentiment and how it carries over > brands , people, companys , communitys.

Its something that rubbed me the wrong way during the short time ive been here! People are near riot level in their heads regarding BFL and every page is plastered with BFL ads.. From a community stand point the shadow reflection it leaves everywhere is bothersome to say the least.

Its not till youre here a bit that you suddenly see the veins pulsing as people get animated during discussion about BFL and you realize  .. Wait a minute here! There is a rampant sentiment and its breeding..

Its the reason people are throwing tomatoes the minute they hear new asic miner company... Its self propelling and  leads to rage and trolling and a general feeling of untrustworthy..  -->> This gradually gravitates to other threads and leeches on to other subjects and before you know it you have a community of scammers just taking advantage of one another !!! From the fpga/asic miner companys down to payment processors and even people hosting asics for groups ..

Sometimes as in my case pointing a finger and stacking blame doesnt really help at all.. Im just out some loot and missed my chance of getting a miner from a company i want to support! <----! I didnt get scammed so to speak but my experience has been rough to say the least. I wouldnt wish it anyone not even the trolls..

----

That said ! Entropy-uc youre awesome for starting this thread! I hope youre sentiment runs rampant and encourages other people , brands and companys to act in a manner that reflects a supportive community at least one that doesnt prey on people!

If you dont think those ads arent preying on noobs think again!!

Meh, flipped the fund a quarter BTC. A full BTC seemed a bit much considering it just hit $93.

Very funny. I know BFL is probably pretty close to shipping, but I love this kinda trolling.

I just saw the ad too.

But is the linked thread really a great starting point for newbies? If someone is new to 'the scene', and has just seen one of BFL's ads, then I don't think the thread you linked really does a great job explaining anything. The thread is explaining things that make sense to people who already understand the entire story around the product, but might not really be helpful to someone who doesn't know anything.

If someone came up to me and said "I am going to purchase this product from BFL, what do you think". I would say (these are all facts; no emotion or judgements)

1. They have not yet assembled any prototype for what they are selling you. There is not yet a single test unit. What they do have is a design and some of the electronic components.

2. They do not employ any of their own ASIC engineering staff or have their own lab*. They employed a part time electronic engineer.

3. One of their executives has a previous felony conviction for fraud.

4. The product was promised 7 months ago (covered by the ad tag line I guess)

That's it, total truth and plain facts. That is what I would tell someone to catch them up on the situation.

* I could be wrong about this one; someone fill me in.

This is just golden.

It's wrong that BFL is allowed to have ads that say "Order now" without them having a single working prototype to show.

LOLOL

they had this coming, not so much for their failure as for being huge douches about it

This is not some pseudoeconomic post-modern Libertarian cult, it's an un-led, crowd-sourced mega startup organized around mutual self-interest where problems, whether of the theoretical or purely practical variety, are treated as temporary and, ultimately, solvable.
Censorship of e-gold was easy. Censorship of Bitcoin will be… entertaining.

Thanks.  Any amount is appreciated.

The address has 0.7364 BTC right now.

Josh has dropped has bid from 6 ads to 7 because he knows he can't afford to outbid me.

I would love to bump up to a second ad (2.5 BTC needed right now) to force his ad costs up.  If he bids it up I will match up to a number I have in mind, and then drop out, so that the money can be recycled for next week.

With luck, I can refund everybody when this little party ends.  :-)

For the record, this thread doesn't belong in Scam Accusations.

BFL might be a scam, but it's more likely they are just a bunch of idiots.

GMaxwell moved the thread without consulting me.

They are not considered a scam because they don't deliver.
They are considered a scam because they misrepresent reality.
In various ways.
